Just bought Alpha Centauri

I just bought it off Ebay (havent got it yet) and I was wondering if anyone could give my a few tips to help my get started.

Get patch 4.0 for it...I think it is a big improvement.


I could spend ages informing you of this and that, but the best way is for you to play the game and by trial and error learn to play.


BUT just to save you and anyone else hassle...the best website for SMAC is:

Their SMAC forums are especially good, but huge and take some sifting to find good info...

I definitely recommend reading "Journey to Centauri" as it give an excellent background to the game...hell, it is even very enjoyable.
SMAC is atmospheric and knowing the background, the story well I found made this my favourite turn-based game.

Do you have other Civilization related games, or is Alpha Centauri the first one of this kind for you? (So I know if I should give a comparison or a complete description)

I have Civ 3. I have also read journey to Centauri. Very good story. I have one other question though. What does the Alien Crossfire X-pack add to the game?

7 new factions, 2 alien races, new sea techs, new fungal properties and a few other things...all in all detrimental to the game IMHO and spoils that believeable atmos.
