Hey,
I just got the Civ IV Gold Edition today.

I was able to start a little bit of the tutorial, but couldnt complete it. From what I finished (20/30 min), it seemed complicated and confusing. I was wondering if it is normal/supposed to be complicated at first, and if it gets easier to understand?

Cheerz,

Welcome to the forums. :)

Don't worry. It can be daunting at first, but it can be fully understood. Hover your cursor over things on the game screen for extra information, and use these boards for any questions you might have. :goodjob:

I have a question that isint really game related.

Is it possible to install Civ IV on multiple computers? I have more than one and Im not able to use just one whenever I want.

Thanks.

Yes, the game is extremely overwhelming when you first buy it, if you haven't played the Civilization serious.

However, once you learn the game it's just about one of the most realistic, funnest, and plainly best strategy games out there :)

There are so many possibilities and different strategies that can be used it's just amazing and fun, also once you get Warlords and BtS expansion it really is just... WoW :D I love it.

Read up in the Strategy Articles section and read through some of these online games to figure out how to play.

Hmm, you'll have to read the License agreement to find out. If the computers are soley for your use, then there shouldn't be any problem, since you bought the game for your use. However, if you want to stay legal, then you really shouldn't have them both running at the same time.

This is one of those iffy legal issues, anyone know any different?

Anyway, welcome to the forums! You'll find lots of useful information, as well as lots of excellent discussions and helpful people. If you keep learning Civ4, you should learn to enjoy it. Unless you've played a previous civ version, it takes a little time to get used to the game mechanics. Actually, if you want to watch a game in action, then follow the link at the bottom of my post to the Succession Game I am currently leading. You'll be sure to pick up some useful stuff there!

I would just do it and if any one asks, say you didn't. I highly doubt Firaxis will sue you because you put it on 2 computers in your household for convenience. If they do, they are getting really hard up for cash. And such a lawsuit would cause horrible public backlash spiraling them close to no fan support.

P.S. I could probably be sued or something for letting a friend play a full game of civ on my computer o some other nonsense that I have used the game for "improperly". But its basic technicalities as I see it. Only enforced to fry bigger fish.

My only "iffy" legal issue is: Can I get away with it or not?

Just remember to take the battery out of your phone before you do anything naughty :D

If your completley new to civ than I would have to say it would be hard to start on civ IV. I started on civ II and found it really hard, and civ II was a lot less complex. But to be honest when I started I didn't have this site to help me. Check out the war academy it's always good for a read.

#1 i hate despise and consider just about worthless the Civ4 tutorial. and also a bit creepy. if it didn't help you a great deal, i assure you that is not a sign in and of itself that you won't enjoy the actual game.

there is a huge learning curve for the game, due to the complexity. but the complexity gives it a long shelf and a huge amount of flexibility and different approaches to try. many people really really prioritize that in a game (i sure do)!

so, i say keep trying if it seems that you'll like it, which i think that you will (but i'm biased). if you get frustrated, take a break from it. it's a game, the purpose is to have fun not to tear your hair out. after all, everyone has limited free time to spend on games.

i consider The War Academy much more valuable and informative than the tutorial. however, it can be overwhelming and i don't recommend reading everything before you jump in. i'd take a look at what's there, maybe jump into a game, and take a break to read up on what you want help with when you get to those points.

i'd also advise not taking things there as gospel when you're starting out. for example, people say "do NOT automate your workers". well, when you're starting out and have a zillion things to learn, automating them lets you focus on other things, and then when you get more comfortable with the other things then you can start figuring out the worker thing too. just what i'd do ... keep in mind that my advice isn't best for everybody ;).

I noticed the same thing about the Tutorial myself. I've never played any of the Civ games before, but I picked up Civ4 when it was released, but gave up quickly because I just didn't get it. I reinstalled it just last week, and now I find I'm actually picking things up quite fast. I tried the tutorial again, and pushed my way through it, and then jumped into a game with everything on easy, and it helped more that anything.

I still only have a basic grasp on the game as a whole, but I'm having so much fun I just picked up BTS, and will install it later today. To be honest, I was hoping it was not just me in the way I was feeling very overwhelmed at first...
