I've found that discovering Democracy, then trading it with the AI keeps the mon a lease for a while as they switch to Democracy and can't declare war. Can anyone help with the fact the AI keeps asking for my tech? Is there anyway to stop it?

Yeh...wipe them off the face of the earth:lol:

Other then that, not really. I noticed when I tried a few OOC (one city challenge) that I was not in a lead position till near the end of the game. In those games, the AI largely left me alone. So maybe the secret is to be weak and behind the AI and they'll largely leave you alone because they don't see you as a threat in terms of winning?:crazyeye:

I never trade the AI anything...ever. Why give them something they need/don't have? Just plan ahead early and defend your citys. The AI will never stop asking for techs as long as you have something they don't have.

I hate when a country keeps yelling "Give me this or you will die" and your armies are currently taking over their capitol... I just don't understand it.

Yeah the AI needs to be smarter. But recently I played as greeks nad hammered through the tech's. So much so that caesar backed down on demands cause of it.

If you are going for an economic victory, trading gwith the AI is the best way to get fast tech. You can dump science all together, and just trade away for tech you need or just buy it outright from your allies.

My last game I played Egypt for an economic win. Once we got to the industrial era, I switched all my citited to work on gold (producing about 2k+ gold per turn). The Zulus were warring with me the whole game and were building up for a massive push at one of my cities. I bought combustion and gumpowder from the chinese and within 2 turns of rushing had 2 upgraded tank armies and 2 bomber wings and crushed them before they even had a chance to attack.

Economics is one of my most favorite victories and trading for tech is the way to go to keep up with enemy tech. The only time I do not advocate trading tech is when going for a tech or military victory as you want your tech to be ahead of the curve for obvious reasons.

I guess it depends on your playstyle. I'm just stubborn and never give away anything.

Im the same for the most part.... I wont trade/offer peace/agree to X # of turns truce with the AI. Only when they offer me Combustion for Monarchy or something i might consider it but the AI rarely will out tech me.

Give them nothing but take from them EVERYTHING!
(Cheesey 300 line seemed fitting here, lol :D)

yeah, i give them nothing nowadays unless its worthwhile(say ironworking for religion off ghandi)

Last night gaming I didn't quite understand it but the Russians were bringing cruisers along my coast threatening me so I chose to "talk" to their leader to offer them peace and they said give me gunpowder and I said they had to settle for navigation and they bought it. I had 10 turns of peace for a tech they already surpassed.... Hm??

I think that it's a bit pathetic that the AI can only offer you 25 pieces of gold to shoo you away. I'm about to wipe the Spanish from off the map in the late-game and all they got is 25 pieces of gold? Riiiiggghhhttt......

Plus, it would be cool to have vassal states back, if not just to give you another option of control. Like, you can only argue for another civ to be your vassal if you already control their capital and are whipping their armies or something simmilar. I'm a big fan of 'em from Civ IV.

Go medieval or go home! :)

Giving another civ Democracy might cause them to switch gotvernments, but it will give them pikemen. Unless you plan to turtle, giving them access to such a strong defensive unit is a bad idea. Add to that fact that they'd be 2 techs away from Metallurgy and cannons.

Since most civs attack me anyway, I only give them techs that lead to non-combat advantages. Chances are, they won't use them.

Today i was palying warlord for one of my first times and accidentally gave indians metalllurgy, giving them cannons which destroyed loads of my tanks.
