Hey peoples,
i have a conundrum:
i have a Celeron 2.5 (i thnink) with 1GB RAM, 256MB Radeon 9600XT video card.

after downloading the latest Civ 4 patch, AND switching the game options to the LOWEST graphics settings, i am still finding that the game freezes after only a dozen turns or so.. and therefore i have to reboot my PC after a few stressful thumps on the desk and a colourful display of language...

anyway, what the heck is going on here? i am no Tech-head so i need some help!

Thanks:mad:

Had same trouble try updating to your Catalyst from ATI, seemed to fixed my dramas.

Dude,
i followed the Sticky post to the latest ATI catalyst update. CIV4 now loads fine...but randomly freezes the whole PC whenever it feels like...usually only after a few turns from loading the saved game, or starting a new one..
any ideas??
thanks

Yeah mine does same occasionally and still does VPU recovery talked to guy this morning a PC shop he said to turn VPU recovery off in BIOS but that dont sound right to me and I couldnt find it anyway taking into shop monday. Hot weather aint bloody helping.

Two steps resolved my crashing problem.
1. Go to the civ. ini file an change the memsaver from 1 to zero.
2. download a free RAM defrag program. Run the defrag as many times as required to get the maximum free RAM value. (Takes me 6-8 times on the one I am using, Ram Def Xtreme).

It worked for me. I had similar crash/freeze/reboot issues and now I play really huge maps (I changed to value for low sea level to -25) so many of my maps are 80-85% land, and I complete games without crashing. I do a RAM defrag everytime I start and I have become pleased with the game.

Check the forums, tons of people are having the same issues.

Its the game, don't let anyone (ie firaxis defenders) tell you otherwise.

Firaxis is silent and refuses to acknowledge the issue.

Yay. :aargh:

Edit: On a more random note, nice sig...

"I got to get it... I got-got to get it..." :groucho:

What is and where do i download a free ram defrag program,? I have no idea, it wouldn't be the same as disk defragmenting would it? I've tried about everything but not point 2. and if this works, you will be worshipped.

Where on earth do i find the civ. ini file?

My game crashes about every 5 min. Altough I managed to play the game a few days ago without probs.
My pc is running on minimum requirements but I have installed the latest pach.
Would be great if s.o would/could help me out here.
