Hi everyone,

me and my friend have set up a LAN to play civ3. But we're
experiencing a lag of at least 2-3 seconds betweeb giving the order to move a unit and untill it actually moves on the map.

Is this normal something to expect or should there be no lag(like in single player) with we're playing over a LAN (100Mbit)?

I find it very annoying and making the game very slow to play...

Thanks in advance.

btw. We're using patch 1.15beta and fast enough computers.

Ok, thanks.

When playing Simultaneous Moves, this is technically normal. Even though from your PoV you are both playing at once, in the program each moves have to be made one at a time, so the game much be perfectly synchronized with other players. A very small lag is thus very normal. However I hope you exagerated the 2-3 seconds you mentionned cause this is way too long. From experience it is well below one seconde, just enough so that it's annoying at the beginning, but after a while you get used to it. Is your LAN setup known to be slow/lagging?

On the Internet the lag gets up to a few seconds at times, but usually you try to not play with people lagging more than 500 ms so to avoid the lag at maximum (unless you care more about the partner than the playing experience).

We get lag on our LAN (direct connection with a crossover cable) and at times the host computer freezes completely because there's too much going on. That's with two XP high-spec machines and a 10/100 connection.

It's just something that you have to put up with like bad weather or Alex Ferguson. Don't let it get you down.
