Here are some of mine

1.They ALWAYS build cities inbetween all my others... are they that stressed for space? Eventually my culture swallows them up, but going to war to raze them is SO annoying...

2. AI declaring war if you tell them to get out of you're territory even if they are on Gracious...

3. AI searches the costline for any available spot and plants cities even if its surrounded by mts capping the size to 1

on a side note its really ridiculous when:
you get a technology 2 or 3 tech rates ahead of the rest that contains a wonder you want; you start building it asap, but they eventually get the tech...someone else builds the wonder they were working on and they switch and get the wonder you've been building...

i dont think you should be able to switch wonders cause it doesnt make sense...but whatever =/

If you are willing to go to war to raze that cities, then they are not worthless at all.
As for coastal towns, they may turn out to be of strategic importance in a later war, as they are great bridgeheads.

AI does declare war if you kick them out, but that means that passage is more important for them than your goodwill. Check if they are at war with another empire; in that case they WILL pass, peacefully or not.

How about the time I spent 3 minutes just watching the Persians move about 20 knights into and out of the same city over and over again ad-nauseum. It would be nice if the AI's units were moved with purpose, instead of dancing around like they have ants in their pants.

Late game, the Indians are down to 1 city left in a corner on an island. They have superconductor, I want it. I offer them a good tech for trade, no deal. I offer them more, no deal. I offer them a couple cheap cities for it, still no deal. I back up my file, offer literaly every city in my empire (about 25 cities), every tech, every coin, and 500 gold per turn for just superconductor, and .....'Your deal is an Insult.'

You can avoid this irritation for the most part if you take of the animation of enemy/ally moves.

As for the stupidest thing I have seen. Early in the game the Americans left there Capitol wide open. Stupid! I walked in and took it. The were really ticked..but hey..why would you leave the capitol unprotected? This was on Regent Level...right after my second Warrior. Has anybody else seen this?

If u consider leaving your capitol empty in the early part of the game stupid, then i'm the stupid 1....
haha

why would i want to put someone to defend it when i presume that the others are at least a small distance away from me and will usually not attack on sight??

i usually use ALL my unit to explore during the early stages
until i find other players nearby

may be stupid...but i personally find guarding the city in the beginning is not needed....don know bout u guys....

Not sure about the lamest move of the AI, but I certainly know what the lamest thing I did was:

After a war with Persia, I owned some cities that split Persia into two equal-sized pieces. Persia and I had a right of passage agreement. One turn, I noticed that a number of units were moving out of East Persia towards West Persia. I thought "That is strange. I wonder what interest Persia has in sending armies across to their other possessions," but thought no more about it. Five turns these units slogged through my forests. When they got within one square of one of my major cities, I took a second look at them AND REALIZED THAT THEY WERE NOT PERSIANS.... Since they turned out to be RUSSIANS, they sacked my city.

HaHaHa.... man, I was depressed.

Maybe that costal town has another use.

If the AI thinks (and it doesn't have to be right!) no other player/AI knows it's there, it could be a useful backup if their entire empire gets wiped.

The mountains would make it less accessible and more defendable (unless the mountains are right up against the town, in which case attackers could attack from their with a few defenders keeping them self with the mountain defense bonus.

That sums it up pretty nice I think. Until we get those "cool multiplayer features" firaxis talkes about we have to live with this pathetic AI.....
I think that multiplay is the only way to save this game!!

One thing that makes me sooo mad is not actually enemies but barbarians. I can't stand when everything seems to work nice and a stupid white looking warrior or horseman pops up and "executes" my hard working workers. The feeling of guilt makes me so Furious! By the way,I just hate it when enemies do the same too. They capture them and when I try to capture them back, they are gone! They actually disband them, you bloody war criminals!

I am so annoyed by AI building cities all over the place, whether it seems to make sense or not. It just wants to p*** me off! Last night, I was playing a fun game - though I wasn't leading in the overall score - and my geographical situation turned out to be very nice because there were two continents (I was playing 'tiny' map), and the 3 rival civs were all located on the other larger one, i.e. I had a continent to myself. Things were going well and I was moving my civ along nicely. I was also not inclined to go to war or make anyone angry, so I gave in to all their demands as well and traded with them. Then around 2000AD, the Chinese, Indians, and Iroquois almoust simultaneously decided to build cities between mine where no city could flourish. I mean, we're talking smack in the middle of a tundra or ice cap or whatever. You all know what I mean. Eventually, a few of them joined my civ, but then I still had a silly little town in the middle of nowhere taking up space. Yes, of course, I do understand why AI does this. I think it's to annoy the player, to slow him down, to throw him a curve ball. On the other hand, every time it happens, I really just want to declare war and kill those bastards! But I never do it. I've tried fortifying units all over the continent in hopes of discourageing AI to build cities. No such luck. They go ahead and build and I get warned to remove my troops. Well, what good is it then that I station my troops around "my" realm, only to have them get booted out of their own territory 'cos some stupid AI just laid the cornerstone to his new city. Doesn't make sense.

Well, there, I just had to vent a little...all better now.

Wound up losing the game anyhow because come 2050AD I hadn't achieved any type of victory...but at least I had the most wonders and the biggest treasury.

Yes, the AI will build anywhere it can find land outside your territory, which is REALLY annoying and disruptive. In recent games I've started building cities in lousy locations just to "fill in" my territory and prevent the AI player from plopping their own city down there.

Actually it's a pretty good strategy, and one I often do in reverse... plant a new city of mine next in a nice space between two of theirs. The problem is the AI doesn't seem to build temples right away, whereas I do, which means I always win the culture race and the nearby cities eventually lose territory to me and then revolt.

I really hate that. In my games I am notorious for my unrelenting brutality when a once-friend AI (or even just a neutral) declares war on me for violating MY borders. It makes me so mad. I will go to great lengths to whittle them down to 1 or 2 cities (all the while rejecting their requests to meet) and then demand outrageous sums of money, among other things, for peace. My worker-to-slave ratio is usually about 1:3 after such wars, not to mention my country is at least 50% - 100% larger, so sometimes I am glad when they act like morons and declare war on me when I tell them to leave my land. ;)

Too bad the AI isn't smart enough to realize the example I try to set, as it happens all the time. ;p

The LAMEST thing I've ever seen the AI do is attempt to play a decent game of Civilization 3. Hahaha.

Seriously though.

I've heard some outrageous deals from him at the bargaining table. Haha, I imagine I'm gonna give you 99 gold per turn, 3 techs, my oil AND my saltpeter for your spices! Get the hell out of here!

Talk about lame.

I've seen the computer build a galley in the middle of the desert. That thing sunk right into the sand.

I've seen him pay a lot of money for some pretty useless cities. One's he would have never bought if he knew they were going to flip to my side in about 5 turns yet again.

Computers are funny.

-----

Oh, and I don't think it's lame how the computer builds everywhere he can fit a city. I do the same thing. It makes the mid game so much easier when you don't have to fight those little cities. They don't always flip to your side eventually and they can be a thorn. Sometimes my little ones flip to his side but at least I tried to dick him.

No, I've never seen the AI leave a city open.

It's not needed, but if the AI was smart enough to take them it would be.:egypt:

Apart from that which Witchfinder pointed out, which in itself is more annoying that "stupid" in and in itself I have noticed one thing which I find both annoying and hilarious, but nevertheless idiotic coming from the AI...

Every now and then it keeps sending it's workers in HUGE piles through my land, with or without a Right of Passage agreement, and more often than not unprotected to boot. When you stop to consider that you have a walking working force the size of Mexico City outside your armed encampments it does make me smile...

:king:

In my latest game I noticed one of my AI neighbors, the continent we were on was almost fully colonised, and I noticed the AI started moving a huge columb of combat units slowly north, square by square. I mean like 3 solid squares of 8 knights each, plus a bunch of other combat units. They all moved in exactly the same path and all seemed to be heading for the same square up in the jungle, towards where an old barbarian encampment used to be.

It got so annoying I finally decided to train them maps again. Immediately the column stopped and turned around... I think my map showed them the colony wasn't there anymore. :) Okay, fine, so going after it made sense, but the AI should have a sense of proportionality. Sending *every* available unit after a barbarian encampment is overkill; even if you're at peace with your neighbor there are still better places for those forces to be.

Another thing that bothers me is the AI disrespect for borders. If *you* move into their borders, you get 1 turn of warning, and then the next turn you have to start a war or are *forcibly* removed.

However, with the AI, you can warn it one turn, and it says it will leave. The next turn it might move away, but if you ask it again with stuff inside your borders and it agrees again, the units aren't "forced" out. Then a turn or two later the AI "forgets" you asked it to leave, and immediately moves forces in again!

I really want an automatic "Always ask every enemy to leave every turn, and if he says he'll declare war, THEN pop up a dialog box for me. Otherwise don't make be jump through hoops every turn just to deal with your stupid AI." option.
