Has anybody ever been landlocked?? It almost seems impossible not to be near some sort of large body of water on ANY map.

just wondering...

Being landlocked in Pangaea is not all that uncommon, especially on bigger maps.

Chieftess has a screenie of the AI being landlocked. You could see it here. Not the best example, as they do have coastal access, but not very bright.

I was on Pangea once, and there was a huge lake in the middle. Impossible to be landlocked.

I've seen that CT screenie before, but it is still funny.

I find more and more I'm not trying to get those coastal cities as much. It still happens, but I don't obcess about it if optimum placement means one tile between the city and the coast.

I just tell the peeps that I'm safeguarding them from tsunamis....

Only once. It really disrupted my trade/exploration (large continents map, right in the middle of 3 civs). I had to wait til Airports so I could get rubber (or some rescource, maybe oil?) so I could invade Zululand. Then, I got to the coast :D

I was once on a pangea monarch game. How ironic that I was playing as Russia.

I have never been landlocked. I did play a game however where China had absolutely no coastal squares in their possession.

I've never been landlocked, but if I'm playing pangea, and know I can only fight a short war against an AI, I try to landlock them.

I like that screenie you put, Turner727. I haven't been in that situation but one time I was playing a game with a bunch of islands and one of the AIs did something similar to that. The AI's starting point was on the center of an island that had a radius of only two squares so when it started that was it's only city. Conquered it no problem.

I got land-locked until well into the Middle Ages as the Aztecs on a Huge Continents map, roughly a billion years ago when we were playing Vanilla. More due to not having mastered the finer points of landgrabbing than starting unavoidably landlocked, tho.

Never been landlocked, and I don't think I've seen another Civ in one of my games be landlocked either.

I have however, seen civs locked in the artic with only one or two towns.

Actually, it's Chieftess' screenie. I just remembered it when I saw the thread, and posted before she did. :D

I was landlocked once, but I managed to find little crevices where cities could barely fit to reach the coast. Eventually, as my cities expanded the cities were pushed to their smallest limits and taken through culture, then I seized a bunch of other cities to my north through culture...that was my greatest game. I was beaten down from nine to three, and managed to squeeze my way back out to 24, but by the end of the game i was down to 21 again. :D

Wow...it's nice being back here...I wonder if anyone remembers me?
