I just bought this great laptop. It's an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz, 4 Gig DDR2 1066MHz Ram with an nVidia Mobile GeForce 9800GT with 512MB of dedicated video ram. This computer is about 2x faster than my old desktop with a much better video card.

However, often when a leaderhead is trying to pop up (AI coming for a trade) sometimes the music will stutter and sound choppy and somewhat slow and it takes like 90 seconds for the leaderhead to pop up. WTH? My desktop never had issues like that.

My Civ4 BTS is fully patched with the BUG Mod 3.6 installed.

Now, I do have Vista 64-bit with SP1, so maybe the 64-bit operating system is giving me the problems? I don't know, but it stinks when I have to wait 60-90 seconds every 10-20 turns in the BEGINNING of the game! (IE not even in the end where the whole map and all civs are visible).

Anyone have any idea what this is?

almost all laptops suck at civ due to the crappy inbuilt video card id probably try to minimize pop ups and graphics settings to single unit anims ect

might be a idea to check if theres a updated driver for the graphics card available too

Yeah, I think the updated graphics driver might do it. I think I already updated it, but I'll check again.

The reason I got this particular laptop is because it has a 512MB NVidia card that is dedicated to graphics only. It isn't the Intel stock chip nor is it an integrated chip. The computer is bar none faster and better than my previous desktop and it had no problems. I hope a driver update will take care of this.

I had a similar problem, but on my desktop. What fixed it for me was going into the graphics options and turning antialiasing off and setting the movies to low. All the other settings I left on high. Don't ask me why that works. But the leaderhead startup problem disappeared.
