I've read of a few people timing lots of cultural border expansons to trigger on the last turn of the game, but has anyone ever tried setting themselves up to settle 100% of the map on the last turn of the game?

That idea's floated through my head once or twice, but I've never really considered it worth it. The problem with my games is that I'd have to abandon a lot of cities in order to build new ones without hitting the 512 cap.

Probably the only really interesting thing I ever did on a last turn was nuke all my cities...

Eek! I never realised there was a cap on the number of cities. What happens when you hit the cap? Does it just not show the 'build city' icon?

I might try it at the end of my current game just to see how many extra points its gets you.

The build city icon does still show up, but when you tell a settler to build, he'll only get his pack halfway off and then stop and you'll get a pop up saying there's too many cities.

By the way, the 512 is the total number of cities for all civ's combined, so the AI's count too.

Pretty sure Bamspeedy did this, or something very much like it, in one of this games.

Yes, I think at least in GOTM18 which was on a large pangaia map. He milked it ICS style and settled all available area in the end.

....till you ANALYZE the numbers!

For example, if you controlled an extra 1000 squares on the last turn you would effectively get a whopping 2 points added to your score! (times the difficulty level) ;)

WOW! 8 points at Monarch, Well worth doing then :D
