Hey guys, lurked on and off for a bit, but I think this is my first post (certainly first in a long time).

Does anyone have any insight into if late game lag will be as big of a factor in BE as it was in Civ 5? I know BE is using the same engine, but presumably they've made the changes that enable the game to utilize more than 4GB of RAM and 64-bit processors, yeah? I love Civ 5, but as the game progresses, it's almost unplayable on large maps. I had a very high end PC that was new in Aug 2011, and I currently have the most powerful macbook pro available. My experience has always been the same regarding game lag.

Any insight would be valuable and appreciated!

I don't think we heard anything specific regarding that, but personally I'd expect some improvements, since this is an issue they're probably aware of, and was partially addressed in Civ V expansions (at least in my opinion - I feel that BNW was a bit faster than Civ V, albeit far from perfect).

I may be wrong, but I believe that most of the lag in Civ V comes from the City-States, because their turns are processed individually (so each City-State is basically a civilization). So it's up to how the "Stations" are managed in Civ BE. Since they occupy a single tile and don't seem to have units, I don't think they'll pose the same issue as Civ V's City-States and the game will flow better.

If you have the possiblity i can recommend upgrading to 8GB RAM. Its a whole other world of civ. I know it does not use the whole 8GB, but it just does the trick.

Appreciate that! I'm actually currently using the setup in the jpeg attached, but I was hoping that BE would be able to let me truly see what this machine can do, haha.

I guess time will tell!!!

I am cautiously optimistic that turns will process faster for two reasons:

1.) The engine is modified to support AMD Mantle which will reduce the workload of your CPU if ou have a newer AMD video card. I'm not sure, but I think Mantle requires a 64-bit system, therefore the engine will probably have 64-bit support.

2.)There are fewer factions for the CPU to handle. You'll only have eight major factions instead of the twelve you'd have on a huge civ 5 map, and what's more important, city states are out. The stations that fulfill the same gameplay function aren't cities and don't build or control units.
Aliens might be more numerous than barbarians, but neither require a lot of AI work compared to major factions and city states.

Well haveing the game be multi treaded so it can use more then 1 prosessor in the game would be Nice.
another thing that can speed up the game is to get rid of Windows 32 bit compatability.
so full 64 bit only so you can use more then 4 GB of ram on the game.
