I get a strange message when the game first loads up.

its says this :- could not setup 2D stream axi0\OË with handleid4


I also get no in game music, but i do get sound effects and music with the wonders


can anyone help please?

Just more of a hunch as I've not seen this specific string, but verify the Civ4 "Options > Audio > Speaker" setting accurately reflects your computer's audio gear. The setup sometimes improperly detects this. You'll find selections such as EAX, Stereo, Mono, System Config (my best choice), etc., here.
If that fails, you may consider reinstalling or at least testing your audio drivers & software as well as your DirectX.
Post your DXDiag.txt to this thread if you don't have any success; someone may see something amiss there. Either way, let us know how it goes.

thanks dude - it was on system config - heres the dxdiag file

incidentally I do get music on the loading but when I get to the menu screen none - weird
