Here's a fun bug I came across! I was just messing around on a random world on chieftain, kicking ass, accumulating knowledge and so on and I suddenly came across the Chinese. After a few turns I decided to take them out and after destroying their one city the Americans came onto the scene. But they arrived right next to one of my units and asked to talk to me. I met with Abe, but noticed something odd about how he was introduced... Well, see the screenshot. I went back a few turns later and destroyed Washington, thinking that that would be the end of the Americans, but it wasn't. About 1,000 years later I get Space Flight and build the Apollo Program, see the few remaining foreign cities and visit them all. But I see no American cities. According to the game the Americans are still playing, but without any cities, and I've searched the tiny island where they appeared. Have the Americans somehow become immortal, because I spoke to them on the same turn that I destroyed the Chinese? What's going on here?

well welcome to the forums.
 :band:
What version are you playing?!
Sounds as if they only have a settler wandering around.

Theo, thanks for the welcome! I got this version of CIV from Abandonia. The welcome screen says version 475.01. That's quite a high version number!

Dack, the game is on my other computer. I'll save it and post it when I get home. (I wish I'd saved it right before this happened. Ah well.)

Believe it or not, that's actually the initial version. It has the highest amount of bugs, too. From what you've described, it sounds like Civ (v1 at least), doesn't completely overwrite the defeated civ's data until city founding, leading to a limbo state.
