Which is the best level to play Civ1?

In the beginning, I always choosed "Chieftain", and I cheated!
It was much fun, but your score won't explode this way.

I like the "King" level, because the score gets much higher, and it remains manageable, but I lose nearly all "Emperor" games.

So, what do you think?

With some practice, Emperor levels will become easier. A while ago I couldn't get good results playing in King mode, but now I'm in Emperor mode and am doing average.

Of course, Emperor is the most challenging, therefore the most rewarding, concerning the final score. 150% seems to be pretty faire already

Civ III is hard (for me) on Regent,
CIv II was hard (for me) on King / Emperor
CIV I was in my good times on all levels an easy game.

I mostly play Prince, but when i feel up to it i go to King. I will get to Emporer someday though!

Become a builder, like I in CIV1

Almost always King but sometimes I try Emperor, never won a game at Emperor level though while I win every game at King level...

I won in Emperor:

3 CIVs, me Zulus with ALL Africa and they Roman and French.

I rush and killed them before they go overseas, with the military techs previously acquired by trades with them (not tech-tech trades...)

Either you're a tard (which I don't think so), or you are just a beginner, in which case, keep on trying
I was like you for my very first game. And maybe it only took me 4 or 5 games to find finally good strategies. Plus, a class mate was a civ god so everyday when I was in highschool I annoyed him with my questions
Well, I could remember one of my first games I was playing Zulus with 2 other civs. Romans+Frenchs. Then the Romans destroyed the Frenchs and the Germans appeared. I killed the Germans. Took all Roman cities but one. And since I was dumb I kept on playing until... 2283AD! Yep I played really long long... Knowing that since 1900AD each year is one turn.... Damn I had lot of free time when I was young. Sigh...

I went to Warlord very early since I hate CIV1's tutorial about EVERYTHING... and I didn't know how turn it off.

I played in Warlord for long, but then I move to King, and it's my favourite level since then!

Well, Genghisk, what should you have done? Why should you stop playing until you won?

Guess why? I could win since a long long time! In 2110 I could already win, there was only one city left surrounded by my musketeers. So one turn and I crushed them. But I was just curious to play for fun, to get more and more money. Each turn I sent 50 caravans in Caesarea, their survivor city 22K gold...
So I just did it for fun...

You did it for fun -> You did the right thing. You can get fun from the game.
In fact, I think that that is the main point!
