Loading a save game causes crash to desktop

I tried searching for this problem but it said it had search had been disabled, so I apologise if this is a question been asked 100s of times before.

Anyway, see topic title, the game just crashes to desktop whenever i try to load any savegame, be they autosaves or manual saves. The game runs fine otherwise.

System specs:
Windows XP Pro
nVidia GF4MX440 (DX 9.0 with latests detonators)
Videologic SonicFury Soundcard (UK equivilent of the Turtlebeach Santacruz)
Duron 1ghz
384mb PC100

I'm using the v1.29f patch. Is this a fixable/known problem?

I have checked there, and one or two other non official Troubleshooting FAQs to no avail.
 
Yes, I also have DirectX 9 aswell. To the best of my knowledge everything is up to date. If it's any help I'm using WindowsXP SP1.

I tried reinstalling the game, and now instead of crashing immediatly I get an infobox telling me about the saved game, then it crashes. Before I didn't get this little box.
 
Not to worry.

One of the sound files was corrupted, I did a scandisk and it detected it, so i downloaded a replacement files and it works fine.
