I am unsure of the number of people willing and able to play D&D 4e on this forum, but a few of us over on the NESing forums, and the irc channel #nes, are avid fans and have played many times before. In order to kill boredom this coming up weekend I have decided to run a one night, one session, one shot dungeon with five level 15 characters. Nothing is disclosed about this one shot other than it will probably be something with a dragon. I have a couple potential players from the NESing forums, but might need more from All Other Games. All applications are welcome, but everyone will, in the end, be choosing from pregenned characters to make my life easier. I may begin running these "weekend one shots" semi-regularly depending on the success of the first one. What I would like is feedback on this idea, as well as possible joinees.

I have pregenned five level 15 characters, they are:

Reed, Male Halfling Rogue
Orh, Male Half Orc Cleric
Aelar, Male Half Elf Wizard
Rieta, Female Tiefling Fighter
Ilhelm, Male Human Paladin

I will be linking to PDF downloads of the full character sheets in the coming day(s).

You can reach me on #nes, it's the irc channel for the NESing forum.

Have you decided on a time of the day? What's the time zone?

It would be sometime in the evening on Friday or Saturday, maybe even Sunday. I would aim for something after 6 PM EST, though it all depends on the players requests.

I tend to think of Sunday nights as the time when people are most likely to be home, bored (and borderline depressed ;) ). But the bad side of Sunday nights is that we can't really play 'til 1AM because, you know, there's work/school the next day for most people.

Are you going to run this directly in a chat room, or are you going to require something like MapTools?

Everything will be done on #nesdnd, but maps will be linked to a public googledocs, which will be a tiled spreadsheet. Letters will represent the PC's and NPC's. It has worked very well in the past, as it allows players to move themselves and see all the action. As for the time I think Saturday would be best if enough players are willing, just in case it goes on for a longer time than I build it for. Being a completely contained adventure the players should expect a good 5 hours minimum to cover it all. Hell a good hour to fight the dragon. :p If it's done on Sunday we will just have to start earlier in the day.

Dibs on the Wizard.

Man I'd be interested but it's very hard for me to commit days in advance. This is one of the reason I've been thinking of play-by-post mostly; I have enough available time, but it's hard to predict when.

That is okay, just come on #nes via the link I provided in the first post and ask.

I also might be interested, will have to dust off my old D&D book (If I even have it anymore (otherwise downloading:mischief:).) I haven't played this game in ages but I seem to recall that Halflings suck ass, So I will take the Cleric for now. Time is also an issue As I live in GMT +1 zone.

Depending on how old your books are they may pretty pretty much useless. D&D 4th edition came out in what... 2008? It's not just an editing of the format, every edition plays completely differently.

I'd like to be the paladin, is there any way I can tweak him/her?

For the sake of it being a one-shot I would rather not allow too much player customization. Especially when you have an idea of what type of session it will be (dragon lair).

Oh, I was thinking of an indefatigable paladin who could mass challenge...

Here is the .rar file containing all five character sheets in pdf format. Some of the feats were cut off on the sheets, but it's a minor issue than can be solved quickly by me filling you in.

Why are the attributes so skewed? Why does no one have high skills? Why does my L3 Seeker have a higher perception (the most commonly used stat in the game) than all of these people? What is the point buy?

+13 in perception or +18 insight is pretty darn good for a non-custom character. I also didn't use a point buy, these were rolls to prevent minmaxing.

THOUGH LOOKING THEM OVER. I'll just rebuild them again and write some snazzy backgrounds for them tomorrow.

How did you pre-gen them? My lvl 3 had 15 perception and 12 insight

Isn't 1/2 lvl+trained 12?

Yes, but not everything is trained and the things that are are based off of the original ability scores + 1/2 level. So it's only +7 from the start no matter what. Some of these had in the 20s.

So, how's that rebuild coming
