This is still a work in progress, just posting what I've got now so I don't lose it to a time out or some such...

--------

To help save countless posts along the lines of "Why isn't my Civ 5 working?" and "OMG HALP!!!111!!1oneone," I thought I'd put together an info and FAQ thread. If I've missed anything obvious out please let me know and it will be added :)

1) Will it run on my mac?

Here are the minimum requirements for running Civ 5 on a Mac along with which video cards are supported. If you don't meet the requirements it may still run but probably not too well and any problems you have are likely to be as a result of this.

CPU Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual-Core)
CPU Speed: 2.4 GHz
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 8 GB

Video Card (NVidia): Geforce 8600
Video Memory (VRam): 256MB

2) I have a shiny, brand new [insert model here] Mac, why isn't it running perfectly?

You should check the minimum requirements and supported video cards lists above to make sure yours is on there. You can find out what video card you have in the System Profiler utility under "Graphics/Displays".

Even if your system meets these there are still known issues with some systems and video cards. This currently includes:

- Vertical grey bar on large screens.
- Problems with launching the game.
- Graphical errors during the intro movie.

This is not a exhaustive list, just a few examples. To check the latest known glitches and bugs you can find the Aspyr support page for Civ 5 here: http://support.aspyr.com/index.php/kb/browse/001084

3) When is the patch going to come out?

We don't yet have a date from Aspyr for the first patch. We do know that the first patch will be based on version 1.0.0.621 and will add features like cloud saves and mod options as well fixing issues.

On a more general note, rickb (our resident Aspyr developer here in unofficial capacity) posted this:
Going forward, as soon as a new PC patch is finalized, we'll checkout the code from Firaxis, merge it into our codebase and try to turn them around as quickly as we can.

4) Can I play multiplayer with my friends who run Civ on Windows boxes?

Not yet. When both versions patches are in sync you will be able to. This will probably be tricky until bugs are ironed out and the patches settle down.

5) Will I be able to use mods?

Yes and no. The more simple mods will be available soon using the in game distribution system in the next patch. More complicated ones using an edited DLL file probably won't work in the near future.
