Mac Requirements Dillema

My wife bought me Civilization III for our 266 mhz PowerPC G3 desktop (the minimum reqs. is a 300 mhz mac). It has also been upgraded with an extra 160 mb of RAM (roughly 150mb available for games), an Orion ATI 128 Rage video card, and System 9.1. I've looked around, but haven't been able to find an answer to my question, I've also searched threads for my machine type, but mostly find PC (as opposed to Mac) comments. I did find one 266mhz machine that could play it, but it was a PC.
The game cannot be returned once it is open, so I'd like to know if anyone has run Civ III on a G3 Mac with less than a 300 mhz CPU. I'm a great fan of the Civilization series, so would like to be able to play it without buying a new computer. I generally play with fewer than 5 other civs (I like my space). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Mac version, like the pc, requires a resolution of 1024x768. Your monitor must be able to supply this.

The amount of ram should be sufficient, but as you know, the more the better. Also note, that the latest patch for the mac version (1.21f) has risen the minimun ram requirement to 128 megabytes.

So far, so good. But the bad news is about your processor. I think your processor is to slow. Look, I've got a G3 with 600 MHz, and Civ3 feels rather slow on my iBook. You can of course turn of font smoothing, but I doubt that this brings the game to a speed, at that you can enjoy the game.
Technically I guess, you can start the game, but as I said, you won't have much fun, once the game has reached the later ages, where a lot of cities and units have to be computed.

Perhaps can someone with a similar processor like yours share her/his impression about the speed of Civ3.

I have run Civ III on my G3 233mhz iMac with 256MB RAM, and a friend has it on his 333Mhz G3 256MB RAM. It will likely run, but might be slow, especially if you don't have the RAM.

I have played Civ III on a PM 7500 with Powerlogix G3/250 card and 200 MB RAM. Slow with large/huge maps, but playable. Even with 1600x1200 with Formac Proformance graphic card. New patch requires to switch on VM.

Now I'm quite happy with my 1 Ghz DP

I'm running Civ III under OS X 10.1.4 on a 233 MHz G3 (Beige) with 384 MB of RAM No problems what so ever, in fact. It screams!
