Hi there! I've opened this thread to have a discussion about a possible Magyar mod for civ6. You may ask...
  • What is Magyar? Well, hungarian. So, the mod would be about adding Hungary to civ6.
  • Why possible? Because I am not entirely sure, wheater I'll really take the time and effort to work on this.
Sure, there already is a mod that adds Hungary to the game, but I am not entirely satisfied with the approach it takes. It would be impolite to critisize the existing mod in any was, so I'll rather present my ideas about my own approach. Please note that this will not yet be a complete description as I am not yet sure about all the details. Also, I am open for productive suggestions and if there's somebody that likes to contribute arts, just let ne know.

Basic concept

I think the hungarian civilization should be focused on culture and military. Why?
  • One of the outstanding hungarian attitudes in my opinion is, that we always managed to keep our own cultural identity despite the harsh conditions. I mean, considering all those slavic peoples and some others around, we are pretty unique considering our language and traditions. Although there were enough subjugators like mongols, turks and habsburgs.
  • The military aspect is connected to the cultural one: as a measure to defend our own identity, we fought oftenly and desperately for our liberty and independence, even against all odds. Also, horses have always played an important role in hungarian forces.
Colouring / icon
The double-cross is fine, the icon would just need to be a bit more detailed. The colour should be red, though, or maybe green.

Leader: Matthias Corvinus / Hunyadi Mátyás

I'd go with him rather than Stephen I. in first place as it's been his reign, when Hungary reached his largest territorial extend and was strong in both, military and cultural aspects. This meets the basic concept very well.

Unique unit(s): Huszár and maybe Vitéz

I personally think that Huszárs as a unique unit is a must-have. The current mod also uses them, it might be copied as is. Not sure about the art the mod uses, but there would be a civ5 unit that could be converted AFAIK.

As of a possible second unique unit, I don't know. That swordsman might be copied, renaming it to Vitéz, but I don't see how hungarian swordsmen or knights were so special. The only other unit that comes to my mind are horsearchers, but this would make two mounted unique units - pretty boring. I don't see the necessity of having two unique units.

Unique building: Végvár
The unique building the current mod uses, is fine. I also used it for civ4 and 5. But I don't think it should replace temples or increase faith. Végvárs were fortresses, so it's a military building that should increase the cities defense. Not sure about the art, maybe my civ4 art could be reused.

Traits: Pro Libertate! and maybe Hagyományőrzés

One of the traits should definately be Pro Libertate! to represent the fights for liberty. Not sure what effect it should have, maybe it should decrease production cost of landunits.

Should there be no second unique unit, there would be a second trait focusing on culture. Could be something about tradition protection, not sure how to represent this in the game.

Conclusion
Having said all this, I'd like to hear oppinions and suggestions on some of the details (I'm not an experienced player, so I have no clue about fair stats).

So I started working on this and have already reached some progress. I prepared the mod to have Matthias Corvinus as leader with Bibliotheca Corviniana as his trait. The civilization trait is set up to be Pro Libertate! The unique unit is the huszár, which is copied straight from Toussaints mod. Likewise, I also use the végvár as a unique building as Toussaint does, but I made it an armory replacement. Besides the huszár, I have not yet exact settings for these. But I have certain ideas:
  • Bibliotheca Corviniana will boost culture and also science slightly.
  • Pro Libertate! may reduce unit maintenance and / or production cost. Also, as the fight for liberty might not necessarily be restricted to its military aspect. Instead, it might also reflect cultural aspects, I just don't know yet how this could be realized.
  • Végvár may have similar properties as medieval walls / castles, just a bit more limited as the properties of the armory are also kept, of course.
Besides of this, I have already prepared german and english texts, though they are not yet complete. Currently, the biggest problems I have are related to the artwork: neither the icons nor the leaders background are showing up. Not to mention that I am still looking for more art. Once I get this done, I'll likely create the real thread for the mod.

The first version I plan to release will contain Stephen as second leader. He'll certainly get some religion-related trait.
