Hi, I am a newbie to the game (got it for christmas,) and I am already obsessed. One thing I am having a problem with a lot however is maintaing my high level of culture. When I look at the histogram, I allways have a durastic plunge after a long time of having about 75% of the culture in the world. Is there tips on maintaining this cultural lead?

1. Build improvements that increase culture (temples, libraries, colosseums, cathedrals, universities, research labs)

2. Build wonders (The Oracle, The Great Library, etc.) In case you have not played any civs before, they are listed in the manual and are located under wealth in the production bar.

3. Build them fast (once the culture structure has been built for 1,000 years, its culture doubles. This can only occur once to a structure and you have to build it before the year 1050 to get the bounus.

4. Destroy other leading civilizations with high culture (if you are militaristic)

*You can download a reference book containing lots of information about the game's improvements and units in the download section of this site.

Well, it would be pretty difficult to maintain 75% of the world's culture unless you own half the world.....

The AI is usually slow at building culture so you can get that giant culture lead, but after the AI finally starts putting culture in their cities it would be pretty hard to outculture 6 or 7 civs COMBINED (or more, I don't know how many AI you are playing against). This would mean you would have to produce 6-7 times as much culture as a normal civ. There just isn't that many culture buildings that are available to be built. It's better to set a goal of having at least double or triple of any ONE other civ.

As long as you have at least double any other civ's culture, you can still win the 100,000 culture point victory. 6 or 7 times as much is overkill unless you want to conquer by culture flipping, and even that gets very difficult as you move farther away from your capital.
