Why are we all rushing around madly buying clothes and armour and weapons and horses?? At the moment there seems little point, but I have an idea...

If you want to travel between two cities, it takes real time. Say, 1 hour per map square. There is a special thread called 'journies' in which you post that you are setting off from city x to city y and it will take z hours.

There are 2 or 3 designated barbarians and robbers, these people attack any person that they 'catch' in the thread before they reach their destination.

Thus if I go from London to Manchetor, 10 map squares, it will take me 10 hours. If one of the 'bad guys' post that I am caught within 10 hours of me declaring my trip, then a 'raid' happens.

There are several results of a raid:
Flee
Fight
Surrender

If you FLEE, then you try to escape, then how far you can run is judged on how fast your transport is. If you have a fst horse, you can flee 4 squares, medium 3 squares, etc. If this gets you to your city then well and good, you are safe, but if not, then you have to CAMP (more on this later)

If you FIGHT, your weapons and skill are judged against that of the attacker. If you have strong weapons and are well trained, you may beat off the raiders and they may drop some gold. If you loose, then they take 20% of your gold and you are INJURED. You can also get someone else to fight for you if you are travelling with a bodyguard.

If you SURRENDER, you loose 20% of your gold but are not injured and can continue on your merry way to the next city when you choose..

If you CAMP then you must do so for 6 hours (starting whenever you choose) and then must continue your journey. If you are camped, you can be raided, but you get a small defensive bonus. However, you CANNOT flee.

If you are INJURED then you are in a little trouble. If you have some kind of medicial herb or something then you can CAMP and HEAL. If not, you must return to where you started and try again.

If you are wondering, the advantage of fighting is that (if you win) the robbers drop however much gold you would have lost if they had defeated you.

The traveller also has the advantage of being able to dictate exactly when they start a journey or set up camp. If people are getting caught all too often, then we can reduce travel times.

This is essentially a game within the RPG just for a bit of fun, and it makes alot of the items usefull.

I have not quite worked out the mechanics of fighting, a random number generator would be helpful.

Is this a good idea?????

Do you think it's workable?
Oh, and if you are injured then you can CAMP and stay where you are to heal, but only if you have a herb or something. If not then it's kind of like 'game over you loose' and you have to try again.
