How does one go about making a unit unbuildable by cities (you can only get it via alternate means)? I tried what I assumed the method was and make it cost -1 hammers, but that doesn't work apparently (the pedia says it is free).

Regardless of what the pedia says, units with a cost of -1 shouldn't be buildable in cities (I'm doing it with Settlers in my mod, and it works).

You can set the default unit of the class to be "None". will make that class unbuildable. Then making an additional class override will allow you to give out that class to just one civ if that's what you're looking to do.

No, this is a building which will not be buildable, but will automatically appear in your city when certain conditions are satisfied (this is handled on the DLL side of things).
