Hello,
I'm a newbie in this civilization business and Civiliztion 3 is my first game. anyway I followed the instruction of the manual in the "beginners only" section and it asks me to choose to discover bronze working and here is the quote from page 27 "we can see her that it will take five turns to discover bronze working"
5 turns?
anyway could someone please help me what to do?
any help will be appreciated

Thanx, Hull.

It's a typo. I'm pretty sure it should say, "We can see here that it will take 32 turns to discover Bronze Working."

Don't worry about it, as your civ grows you'll be able to research more, cutting that time way down. Above all, have fun!

It actually does say "here" so I guess you're asking about the whole turn based thing and how research works?

If so, this is roughly what happens. The game works in turns, so you get to make all your decisions about what your troops and citizen are doing and then the AI (the computer oppositions) gets to move all theirs. You can see a "turn" happening when the AI starts moving its men around. Sometimes you will be prompted to hit Enter (or you can click on the white oval on the corner of the display box in the bottom corner) to make a turn take place.

Every so often your science adviser (who is overseeing research behind the scenes) will pop up and ask you what you want to research next (he'll recommend one but there will be a drop down list to choose from and you will often want to change).

When you first start out, you are caught in the classic newbie "catch 22" - the game doesn't make much sense until you've read the manual, but the manual doesn't make much sense until you've played the game!

It's all a bit insanely complex at first! But after a few hours of
play it all starts to make sense. It's a great game so persevere! If an old fart like me can grasp it (six wins and no losses so far - YAY!) I'm sure anybody can. But come back here and ask when it doesn't make sense. There's some very knowledgeable people here (not, alas, me among them yet, but I'm getting there).

Good luck. :D
