I've decided to create a custom map. I'm able to place the terrain and other items but whenever I try to place a landmark (like the Unity wreck or Garland Crater) it ends up flooding the entire map! I've tried everything but it happens every time. It happens if I edit the same map in SMAC or SMAX. Any ideas on what's wrong?

I might have discovered the problem. I think you have to create the map in the order that is described in this tutorial over at Civilization Gaming Network. I did not do these steps first:

*Select 5th from the bottom (clear map, etc) and set to the planet size you want
*Now go back to edit map, and about the middle, select Set climate and World Parameters (or just hit “8” to bring up the first and toggle through them) and select the 4 variables (these are the same choices you get when setting up a game - ocean coverage; erosive forces; native life forms; and cloud cover)

I'll try it again and let you know if that was indeed the problem.

Yes, that was it. You have to clear the map then set the climate and world parameters first. What were they thinking!? :crazyeye::mischief::lol:

[EDIT] Now it looks like if I save the map and go back to edit it the same thing happens. If I draw new land whatever I saved "sinks" into the ocean. :(

[EDIT 2] I'm told it's a known bug and you can't start a map from scratch (all ocean). First you have to use the generate map function and edit the map to your liking. That will avoid the flood problem. Thanks, Sisko!
