Map generation could work extremely well if...

... the map generation variables/settings were relevant.

In the history of map generation with Civ I have often found myself regenerating maps over and over again to get a map that fits me and my fellow civ:er (private multiplayer). We want maps with feeling and not necessarily very good starts for both of us, but some minimum requirements fulfilled. We usually want something like Island Plates, but this kind of map generator sometimes requires more than an hour of restarting before we get to start playing seriously.

To make this a whole lot easier I think the following should be the main adjusting variables when generating maps. Other stuff, such as those we already have, could be extra settings to tweak the feel of the map.

1. Min number of decent city spots per civ
2. Max number of decent city spots per civ
3. Probability of other civs on the same continent (0, 25, 50, 75 or 100%)
4. Probability of a connected land mass reachable without cartography (0, 25, 50, 75 or 100%)
5. Min number of distant uninhabited landmasses
6. Max number of distant uninhabited landmasses

Map size could be determined based on the previous variables, possibly with an additional "extra land" setting.
