Map of Australia (160x160)

Thanks Chuma.
The mod is 80% completed already.
I've put 70 odd Aboriginal tribes in their exact location, put the English towns in their locations and have put the bushrangers in their locations as well.
The only thing left to do is finish off adding the aboriginal tribe.

One thing that I have been umming and arring about is whether to name the civ as English or Australian?.
English would be more accurate but Australia sounds better.

Hi Sir Eric,
i love the idea of an Mod in Australia in 19th Century and look forward to test it.
To your question i would say that you call the Civ English, because of the accuracy. With the Bushrangers there is already an Australian Civ, if i apprehended it right.

its huge !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've read most of this thread but I dont know how many changes have been made since the screenshot was taken.
A few things I would like to suggest for accuracy. In the south west of WA you should move that Coal north jsut a bit, Collie, a major coal mining town is found there. Also one tile west of that wheat you have there should be some wine. Big wine growing region there. Like a smaller barrossa valley. Also the forests should probably extend to the south of the continent.

Now one problem I think the map has is that WA and NT have too much room to grow. These civs will always outweigh the eastern niehbours. A few solutions could include another starting location around Port Hedland or just downgrading all that land. I've never really travelled much further north than Exmouth, but I can tell you that grassland doesn't go that far up the coast or that far inland. North of Geraldton it should mainly be plains mostly desert inland. Where you do have that clump of grassland east of the plains of the wheatbelt there are huge gold deposits. So mabye sway the grass for hills with gold or something. You've been a bit too generous to the Great Australian Bight aswell. Give it more deserts/plains.
This is sounding very critical, it's not meant to be. It's an excellent map, I'm just a stickler for detail.

Oh and the Gulf of Carpenteria seems rather wide.

I'm sorry if you don't know where the towns I mentioned are, you'll probably have to look them up in an Atlas.

G'day RABicle
Thanks for the suggestions.
I have made some minor changes to the east coast which has been thinned a bit to bring the coast line closer to the Great Dividing Range.
Which in turn has brought the Gulf of carptentaria thinner by about 3 - 4 tiles.
I could widen Arnhem Land a bit too to maybe shrink that a bit more.

When it came to doing North WA and NT I couldn't find any really specific geological maps, so any input it greatly appreciated.

Your right about the Great Australian Bight. I'll make the Nullaboor a bit more of a desert. I thought WA up until Exmouth was accurate with the exception of the inland of Carnarvon which I originally made that way to encourage a bigger growth. But it needs to be more plains and desert.
Exmouth to Derby should be plains, with desert 5 tiles inland through to the red center.

Thanks for the tips on the resources, If you have anymore post them.

Sir Eric

p.s The new map will be used in the Settling Australia mod that is nearing completion. Go take a look and let me know what you think.

Fantastic map Eric, great work.

Sughgestions? Ah, I've spent alot of time around the Nullabor and IMO there's too much grassland between Port Augusta and the WA border.

Maybe a couple of more wheat in the Riverina (bias ;)).

The map's so good that most of these comments are trivial, but I know you're a man of perfection.

Maybe a few rivers in the middle that weren't included?

Maybe the answer to the whole 'too much land between Perth and Darwin' problem would be to put a quasi Dutch civ in there somewhere around Monkey-Mia (maybe drawing a fairly long bow).

Maybe a Japanese civ near Cairns

What is that big land mass just south of Melbourne? Bit small for Antartica...

Edit: 'Maybe' count = 5

Antarctica needs more ice.

Other than that, looks nice Eric.
I'm sure you've put so much effort into it that i'm not going to be able to find crappy little problems...

Gonna need some barbarians around the riverina :mischief:

I couldn't quite make it out... was that the Greeks that start on Melbourne?

Not a bad civ to go, except your cities continuosly culture-flip to civs on the other side of the world.

The Brisbane civ is good as there's grassland for miles around it. Only problem is that you can't produce workers.

I was thinking of putting a civ out in near Wagga Wagga. It would have no culture points. The shields wasted due would be near 100%. The terrain would be plains or desert and the UU is a Dole Bludger with a 2/1/0 specs. ;)

and bose could be king :)

a legend in his own lunchbox :)

The Wagga UU would be a 15 year old mother in an Adidas tracksuit.

Has anyone done a Tasmanian map?

G'day Sir Eric, just thought I'd let you know that we do have aluminum. Bauxite is mined in Weipa and Gove then shipped to Gladstone, processed into alumina then conveyored 26 km's to Boyne Island where it is smelted into ingots. Great work on the map. Regards, coyzee.
