Marsh Fish

Has anybody seen this? The civilopedia says that marshes can contain fish. I played conquest a lot and still never seen this so I thought it was a type-o. Then I checked the editor and, yeah, it says that fish appear in marshes.

I thought this was an error, but in my last game I noticed sugar on a hill for the first time!

Is it just really unusuall with marsh fishes or is it impossible?

Would be pretty cool with a grassland fish...

In the Napoleonic Europe conquest, there are some "Marsh Fish" in Russian territory.

Wait until you get oil in the marsh (had that happen) and then you clear the marsh and get oil on grassland....(had that happen too) Weird.

Can't you also get oil in the marsh and then have it turn into coast via global warming?

If that is true, what would happen if you already had the tile roaded/railed?

Since it's a water square you can't move a ground unit onto it. I think you still get the commercial bonus, but I don't think you get any 'free' movement from roads/railroads. That would be cool....

But would it count as connected?

Is there someway to test this, short of blind luck? Can you use the editor to manufacture global warming?

It will not happen, although it is set as climate effect.Only a few of the terrain conversions work, the rest is broken for some hardcoded reason. There is a complete article about this topic with a lot of research in the general Creation/Customization section.

EDIT: Here is the link...

I don't know why things are so uncommon on Marshes, but I think it has something to do with the coding.

I attempted to Mod oil so that it was present on sea squares, which worked fine. However, on all random generated maps, oil would ONLY appear on sea squares, despite me not changing any other settings and oil stil being supposed to be put on desert etc as well.

Certainly the random map generator appears to "favour" putting resources on certain tiles, and it's very unusual to see a resource on marsh in this case.

I've seen pictures of a desert fish.

Oil on grassland isn't that strange, it's like getting tropical fruits on grassland something like that...

The fish must have been modded.

The oil and fruits can end up on grass, but only when they start on something else (marsh, jungle) and you clear it to grassland.

Nope, it can happen in a regular game, just nuke a sea tile with fish and it could "dry out" and turn into a desert tile.

Yes I know. What I meant was that it isn't more strange with a grassland tile containing oil than a grassland tile containing tropical fruits.

And yes, deserts CAN contain fish during nuclear wars (with food bonuses and every thing)

Not sure why you would do that, but excuse my inaccuracy.

Perhaps I should have said "the tile was not originally generated like that under a normal ruleset"?

So fishes don't live in the desert? Well you learn something new every day! :D

Huh? Is that a joke? And there are some Marshland fish to the north of Macedonia in Rise of Rome that become grassland fish.

As I understand it, it doesn't exactly work that way - nuking the fish tile so it dries out. When global warming strikes, a random tile gets converted to another type of tile. What type of tile depends on the editor.
