I am running Civ IV on a Dell Inspiron 600m. I am above the minimum specs in all but one respect -- my Mobility Radeon 9000 only has 32MB RAM. I have installed the v1.52 patch, and I'm running XP with SP2.
When I start the game, it runs quite nicely. But after about 10-15 minutes of play, it suddenly slows down so badly that it is essentially unplayable.
I know that my video RAM is below the minimum, so this problem may be unsolvable. But I want to exhaust all possibilities before I assume that. I have already tried setting all of the graphics to minimum, and that doesn't seem to have any effect. I got the latest video drivers from Dell, but from what I've read, those may not be the best. I followed the links to the ATI Driver download page, and was hopelessly confused. What drivers do I want to download from there? Does the Catalyst Mobility 6.2 driver apply to my system, because it doesn't include Radeon 9000 on its list of supported chipsets.
Any help would be appreciated. Here are my specs:
Dell Inspiron 600m
1.6GHz Pentium M
512MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, 32MB RAM
WinXP SP2
