Is there a maximum number of cities in Civ 2?

If so, how can you edit this feature?

yes i have more then 140 city and the last city produce Mech Inf with NONE ( no suport no problem living the city ) I have no idea why it hapen .
can sombody tell me why ?
BTW after some city he began to propose the same name ,
I have 3 Paris (Paris ,Paris2 ,Paris5) I add the number for Myself

I know there's a reason to why you get NONEs, but I can't remember it.

The reason it proposes the same names over and over again is that each civ has a list of city names (file is city.txt) where it gets its names from. When there are no more names in the list, it uses the list called @EXTRA, where cities like Sydney, Genoa and Issus (many italian names) are found. When this list also is through, it restarts with your civs first city name (i.e. the capital name) and goes through the list again.

Funxus,
Further to your note about the city.txt file, is it possible to edit this file and add more city names from the respective civ? It'd be handy if you could.
What I tend to do though is to name all my cities on my first continent English cities. The second continent will all be American cities, third French etc, etc, so I get a feel of where I am.
Works for me. :king:

the reason u can't is the 3 initials it uses 2 identify the units homecity has 2 sources and therefore it cannot identify which city is supporting the unit. The city thing is editable as well, which is kinda good if like me u wish 2 use ure own town (WALLINGFORD) as a city.

Keep on puffin

I think it's allright to just add a new line to the list with a new name. If you create a new civ in rules.txt, you can also add that civ's city-names here as well.

No, that's not true... Internally, cities are identified by a unique number, not by their name.

The 3 letter abbreviation is just a half-decent human-readable short form of identifying the cities.

You might not be able to distinguish home cities, but the computer certainly does.

The reason you get NONE units, is because you have "classic" civ2. It's a bug.

You should download the 2.42 patch.

Do You know when this Bug began to works ?
I find it very convient when you Play Democracy and want to go to war , no unhappy citizen , no support .
BTW the most amazing thing is to take a unit from another city and make "suport from this city " and it also became " NONE "
