I'm writing 3 stories for school. One is about current day politics (:p) and the other 2 are where I'm gonna make up 2 people from Medieval & Roman time periods (we got to choose our own topics so that's why I'm talking about politics :) ). yet I need names. I was posted here before yet I lost the link. I came up with the name "Jonathan Longshanks" for the Medieval one and "Cassius Brollus" for the Roman name (:p) but those suck.
ANy suggtions? Preferably "militaristic" sounding names (btw, the Roman one doesn't have to be Roman, it has to be one of the times of the Roman empire)
thx :)

You didn't specify what kind of name you wanted. He wasn't English, anyway.

No, without the 'Furius' (notice lack of 'o') part it's bad, because without it it isn't a possible Roman name.

(It was the name of a Roman general in the 5th C BC.)

Just us Rome Total War and Medieval Total War :p

If the guy is en English noble, then simply use a french name (with a "de" inside).
For the Roman, well, Gaius Julius is a sure bet :D

Kaeso is my favorite Roman surname. (It was very rare and is also the only known Roman name to contain the letter k.)

Gaius Marius Kaeso

roman names had 3 parts--praenomen,nomen and cognom

praenmen was given name
nomen was gens or clan name
cognom was nickname
so gaius julius ceasar was gaius of gen julius with full head of hair ( meaning of ceasar i believe )

Gaius Drusus Tiberius

That sounds pretty cool.:)

You have Rome: Total War, don't you? Just go to Data and descr_names. It has a ton of names. I like Flavius Julius and Quintus Julius.

The Cognomen was originally a nickname, but later evolved into a family name as well. It was passed on from father to son. (The daughter was named for the father's nomen.)

A son of Gaius Marius Kaeso might be Julius Marius Kaeso while a daughter would be Maria Kaeso (until she married, at which point she would take on her husband's nomen and become, for example, Maria Crassus Kaeso).

What is class and ethnic background of the Roman guy?

What is the class and national background of the medieval guy?

I'd need that info to make suggestions. :)

OK, well there a no generic medieval names. If you call your man Etienne de Blois, then the man must have some specific background in northern France. Likewise, Malcolm MacDuff will have a specific background in Scotland, or Pribislav of Magdeburg will be a western Slav, with some involvements in Germaniztion. If you call him "Jonathan Longshanks", then he will be peasant/burgher scum from England, who I suppose might rise up in the service of a lord.

SO, the name has to fit with your story. :)
