Okay, I'll work on a map of the Mediterranean Sea now.
I think it will be:
Length=180
Height=74

Distance horizontally and vertically will be respected which will give a "crushed" aspect to the map as tiles are diamonds and not squares.

For now, here's the map I think I'll do but I wonder if there's too much desert on it. We all know the AI has as secret mission to found as much cities as it can, thus, he'll put cities all over the desert.
Anyway, give me your advice about what should be the better limit for the map (North, South, East and West).
It will be great if you can help me. :)

Thanx :)

what about making an ever bigger map? I downloaded a map of Europe wich was 256x256, it was great.

About all that desert, it doesn't realy matter, or you could have the map a bit further up north, but that kind of destroys the meditterean idea a bit.

If you make it even larger, but not "higher", so it will be less desert?

This is the one I was thinking to work on. More europe, less desert, a row of mountains-coast-mountains crossing over the Hazar Sea.

i think you should cut out a little of the atlantic... it serves no purpose, and just takes up map space...

neway, it looks good, i think its a great map to copy from...:D

i forgot to add... i like the idea of putting mesopotamia in the map; it adds a bit of history for scenario making. i think even persia would fit on there.

The med is the med dont put all of europe on it!
just sounds like an annoying atempt of europeans to stuck their countries in every friggin map alive!
so what, theres desert, their is desert in RL and thats the climate of the med!
just do the med plz, not europe with a bit of med like a lot of people do :(

well med is not western africa either... if you want a map of the "mediterrenean" in terms of culture and history, then it should be the map of east mediterrenean.

Ah ok East Mediterranean...

Well, yeah, but I thought it would be funnier if when we invade everything, we control, the Roman Empire... that's the reason why I've put a bit of Britain on the map...

Anyway, here are the civilization I should put in the game, only ancient time civs:
- Rome
- Greece
- Egypt
- Babylon
- Persia
- Carthages
- Israel (?) <= no offence to palestinians... it's an Ancient time civ.
- Turkey
- Celts
- Huns
- Arabs (?) <= Well, it's not an ancient civ but why not ?
- Slavonics (?)
- Iberics (?)
- Maures (?)
- (?)
- (?)

Well anyway, now I start to doubt, would you like better the whole med sea or only the Eastern Med Sea ?

Israel is also a modern civ. Why should the Palestinians be offended by that? I don't care if they officialy recognize our existence, we're still here!

Let the AI spend time and resources making pop1 cities in the desert:D so long as there is nothing there for them to gain. On the other hand, there really was civ in the desert, nomads, oases, cities from Egypt, and irrigation/villages in the Negev, cities in the Arabian desert.

I don't think Turkey was ancient... or at least not called Turkey. It was the Mogols, AFAIK. There were Phoenecians... The slavs came into the balkans from the north or northeast. But the were there from about 6thc AD on...
Lots of tribes weren't civs.. but I suppose they could have been if one of had been their Great Leader:)

Go for it.

Turkish history in anatolia starts in 1000AD's not before... Ancient anatolian civilizations were Assyrians, Hitites, Urartus, Lidians, Frigians, Ionians... You can also split greeks as Akhans and Dorians. Etruscans in italy is another choice. Byzantium Empire should also be considered :)

Palestiniens are arabs that settled in Israel and decided not to recognize the existence of Israel...
They aren ot even a part of the MED map.. Arabs are tho.

I can export my Israel Civ using civ3export tool made by gramphos if you want..
It includes all of the cities arranged by size, about 6 leaders, the only thing that needs to be changed is the UU (Its a special tank that did not exist in ancient times..).
do you want it marla?

What I think the Civilizations should be for an Ancient scenario or a Mediterranean Sea map.

1. Rome
2. Achaean League, Greeks (Royal House of Macedon)
3. Atolian League, Greeks
4. Carthage
5.Estrucans (early rulers of Italian Penninsula, just north of Rome is where they ruled from)
6. Iberians (Spanish Tribes, a very diverse people. But they can be narrowed to one tribe)
7. Gauls (ancient French in S. France area, mix of german and french)
8. Celts (Though often tied ot the gauls they were a seperate tribe which represents the modern Scottish and Irish descendents)
9. Persians
10. Egypt
11. Babylonians
12. Assyrians (North of the Mesoptamia region)
13. Germans/Germaniac's (They were loosly organized like the Gauls but never were able to establish a real civilization like the Gauls. So their validaty as a civilization and not a barbaric tribe is in question)
14. Hittite (Major conflicter with Assyrians, in the Turkey region)
15. Berbers (African civilization Carthage was forced to conquer. They are a significant civilization just East of Carthage/Nova Carthago/Modern Tunisia. They should be represented)
16. Phoenicians? (yes I know the Carthaginians were their descendents but they did represent a completly different government makeup before the fall of Phonecia to Neberchenezer)

Thats it. Most of these civilizations were around between 3500 B.C. to 476 A.D. and each was a signigicant power in their own manner. Though ones like the berbers, assyrians, and hittite might not sound like significant powers. The people under their rule at later dates and times would change the sway of battle, and thus the outcome of the known western world, at that time.

Well, the idea was to try to occupy the map homogenously... turks didn't really exist before the fall of the Eastern Empire in 1452... I know... argh !

Okay... I'm able to listen to proposals about what civs to put on the map... anyway, it will be strongly recommended to play with only 8 civs because the map won't be huge at all (30% of my world map for example).
I don't like the idea of the etrusks or macedonians because they are really close to Greece and Rome and I'm affraid they won't be able to breath.
Please give me a list of which civs should be here :).

actually 1453 is the time when Eastern Roman Empire fall, and it was only a single city left :D Turkish rule in Anatolia started in 1071, way before 1453. Lets pick 8 civilizations keeping the starting locations and the civs in the game in mind.

hmmm.... ok wha about this:

Egyptians
Carthegians
Babylonians
Assyrians
Greeks
Romans
Bulgarians
Magyars

What is ancient? Everything before 00AD? The slavic tribes did not come into the Baltics until like 6th or 7 centuryAD.
What about a Mycenium based in Crete? How about something from Gaul? After all, we know from Julius Caesar's writing that the Helvetians (Switzerland) once set out to conquer the world.

How are you handling the fact that all maps wrap-around?
I'm trying to do scenario maps that don't model the whole planet:confused:
Use Civ3CopyTool.
