Meeting Civs First Impression

At this point I am in fact inclined to wonder if specific leaders are preset to have a certain opinion of other specific leaders.
Civ4 has something called peace weight. The close you are in peace weight, the better modifier you get. Being far away (Gandhi vs. Shaka, for example) leads to massive dislike on both sides. Perhaps (?) this is similar. I don't know.

I read somewhere (and never really tested it) that this is kind of random. If you play in SG 4 you can get stuff from +4 to -4 if you move to SG 5 you can get from +3 to -5 and so on. So the difficulty you play on makes the difference.

I don't think sharing information at the start has anything to do with modifiers at all. You'll have the same turn + or - modifier whether you show them your lands or just leave discussions with them immediately. These dialogue options are just a way to learn some of the map.

The only important thing to do the very turn you meet someone is to send a delegation. Otherswise the negative modifier you have with them will kick in the next turn and they might not accept one. However they always accept the 25 gold delegation the turn you meet. (I believe having a delegation with a civ will give a small positive modifier after the first turn)

Why should I reveal my city to someone else if it doesn't get me anything? It must at least give some sort of change to the relationship modifier, right? If I were playing another human and they willingly revealed their city, I would think it was a show of good faith and peaceful intentions, and either be nicer to them or more ruthless (but pretending to be nicer to them first, so either way it would look like a positive relationship modifier).

I love this test, but what is the "Explore All" option???
In the Maps panel of the Firetuner, there's some options for showing the map you're playing on.
Explore All just reveals the map, but leaves it that sort of parchment style (as per a normal game when you have uncovered an area, but don't have any units there).
Reveal all is the same as the console command, it uncovers the map and you can see everything going on. It basically removes the fog of war permanently. It also prevents barbarians from respawning, as they only spawn in the parchment / fog of war parts of the map.

I believe doing the opposite would give a negative modifier instead?

I was just playing an Immortal game as Alexander, and was able to befriend Magnificence Cathy on the first turn I met her in the Ancient Era. The second I met her she had a green smiley. Is this consistent? Do we have a Cathebro on our hands to take the reins from Gilgabro?

Interesting. I have only encountered her in later eras.

Saw her early game, did not have this happen.

The range of the impressions is based on the difficulty level, yes, but the actual first impression seems somewhat random.

But again, does anyone know how the sharing of info at first meeting affects this modifier?
