I should begin by saying that I am a complete and total amateur at modding.
I've been experimenting recently with different mods but I find that many of the mods I try to combine don't work well together, so I've been modding them slowly so that they do work together. I'm looking for help in merging these mods and balancing my game but I'm not certain where to look for it.
At the moment I am looking to make Moaf's Cultural Capital (v.11), Gedemon's Cultural Diffusion (v.12) + Revolutions (v.4), Gazebo's City State Diplomacy Mod (v.34), and Machiavelli's Social Policy Rebalancing (v.18) to work together. They seem to work together well enough, although there are many obvious flaws (such as policy buildings/units not being granted) and I haven't been able to play a game all the way through because of crashes. (The crashes are duplicable, which leads me to suspect that my terrible laptop is the cause of the crashes. My laptop runs vanilla G&K with no problems; however, I suffer from plenty of lag unless I play on Strategic View.)
Eventually I want to add in other smaller mods that change the UI, mostly from WHoward's collection, more Wonders, and UB instead of 2UUs. However, I don't think those will be a problem. What I have a harder time doing is merging two mods that conflict (e.g. Gazebo's mod and Machiavelli's mod have two different patronage trees, not to mention the subtle policy changes in Gedemon's mods) into a stand-alone mod.
For the time being, I've managed to get Gazebo's and Machiavelli's mods to work well enough together by altering the Machiavelli Patronage tree. My solution is very inelegant though, because now the Machiavelli policies refer to a unit class that was only defined in Gazebo's mod. I'm not sure if this is a problem because I haven't tested it well enough yet, but at the very least, this is bad programming.
I also can't seem to get Modbuddy to work, so I've been changing all the .lua/.xml/etc files with notepad.
Thanks,
