Hi all.

After running several games (since civ1 / 1991) I conclude that I am a not very good player, never achieving high level player modes.

So decided to learn a bit more, looking / reading tales from the expert ones. I must confess that the articles from Ision ( :king: ) are very educative, simple and clear.

In some threads I notice some people talting about micromagement of workers actions (if I understood well). Does some of the demi gods can explain wich should be the best way to take full advantage of a good workers control?
I believ that the good control of the worker teams could be the most important factor for full domination of this great game. Do you agree'

Thanks for comments

I agree that workers are a very vital part for your succes. And the first step to worker micromanagement is to stop automating at all. Another thing is to get off your thumb rules such as always mining grassland.

@ Raio- Welcome to the forums :wavey: . You have already found a gold
mine in Ision. Although MM is very important in all games, some people do
not like to mess with it and use the city gov. to manage. I for one turn
on the 'make citizens happy" gov. so I can get on with my warmongering
without worry over every city :D . Even though it hurts my overall game,
I find that expansion, early war and trading are more important for my game,
without all the micro-managing ;) . My advice would be for you to keep
reading and soaking up the knowledge of the masters in the forums, do not
hesitate to ask questions, and trying to follow some succession games.
Soon you will be a :king: of civ yourself.

You can check out the SG in my sig, we're still not that far into it so we've been stressing worker actions as much if not more then anything else.

edit- and almost forgot....... Welcome to CFC!

I usually mine "enhanced" grassland and irrigate plains when I'm in despot, then later on when I discover another better gov I will start irrigating regular grassland, then when the cities get pretty good size I might mine over my irrigated grassland and just keep enough food coming in to support the population, then of course after RR's I will irrigate desert with a rail line. As you can probably tell my target is sheilds and production rather than population growth :)

Intelligent use of workers (and having enough of them!) is indeed one of the surest ways to improve your game. A great series of webpages, although focusing on the early game and not workers per se, nonetheless focuses much of the discussion on worker utilization.

Visit cracker's Improving Your Opening Play Sequences in the Strategy Articles forum. You'll need to click on the link in cracker's opening post to get to the actual webpages, but I included the thread link so you know where it's coming from.

I generally use the rules for Mine green / Irrigate brown. The exception is when i have a city surrounded by many hills or mountains. I then do a lot more irrigating of green to help that city with food.

Another thing you need to look out for is access to freshwater. If you see it, try to plan a line of tiles across to cities that don't have freshwater before blocking the path with mines and having to re-irrigate them. Once those cities have water, you can re-work the lands to mines.

My target population is 20-22. Anything more than that, and I'm sacrificing shields for food. I try to maximize number of tiles worked and population. The extra citizens get used as policement (reducing corruption) or CEs when building improvements. So I tend to start out this way too.

I'm still a little weak on my workers/city, but I do alright.
