It is my all time favorite game, from the rpg aspects of the heros and the weapons armor and artifacts you could find, or even create, to TBS aspect of the empire building on the two planes of Arcanus and Myrror, to the tactical TBS aspect of the battles. It's just to bad the AI was so pathetic, but man.... how I wish I could find A Master Of Magic II on the storeshelves one day......

MoM is still the best magic strategy game for me. :yeah:

And there is at least one project going on for the renewal of MoM. It is a fan project that looks promising but will still take a while.
:D

did I mention the eight levels of experience from green to demi-god? And where can I find information about the project to revive Master of Magic?

I think you mean http://www.murlock.org/mom/
a funny thing is that if you seach for my nick on google, the first URL you'll get is to the forum of that MoM32 project :crazyeye:

MoM is indeed a great game. I remember I used to play until dawn during my university holiday days, and then repeat the whole process again the next night for almost 2 months continuosly. Phew!

What's this 8 levels of exp? Of the heroes?

All the units had eight levels of experience, underneath their unit icon on the world map:
1 silver ring - green
2 silver rings - rookie
3 silver rings - veteran
1 - gold ring - experienced?
2 - gold rings - crack?
3- gold rings - elite
1 red ring - ultra elite
2 red rings - demi god....

This was like civ III' sexperience system, except that I believe they leveled up for every battle victory.

Ah, now I remember. I always get the warlord thing so that my paladins would get to ultra elite and stomp all over the two worlds. :)

IMO that was the only real flaw in MoM. Just like on AoW 1 heroes could be made invincible. With the create Artifact spell and enough magic you could create the ultimate items! I remember that i've been sitting in front of that manual and looking how many books I need from a certain sphere of magic to have access to a certain item enchantment.. :crazyeye:

Basically I would be happy with MoM in Civ2 graphic and some more settler commands than just road building :goodjob:

I thought road-building was by engineer units? Settlers can only found new cities. Best of all, don't need to improve tiles. :)

erm.. that might easily be, don't remember most details anyway...
anyway, add some tile improvement and you have a blockbuster ;)

aha but how you forget the gaia spell if you used nature magic.... turn everything to verdant grassland...

Warlord.... always for the ultra elite thing, but I also chose myrran and artificer cuz I loved making weapons, but I also liked the way Adamantium and mithril added bonuses to weapons.

In my case, love taking out those monster-guarded volcanos, magic forests and so on and 'mine' their mana output and also trying to get more magic books. :)

Always love casting those global death spells over the world. :mwaha:

I always chose sorcery, just so I could use spell blast to stop the dreaded chaos spell great wasting, that thing was a world ender. The dungeons and ruins were fun, I loved fighing angel, arch angels and demons and demonlords, that meant a good chance of getting a tome.

Was age of wonders alot like Master of Magic, I played it for about 5 mins and didn't fell like it would repair the hole left in my soul.....

not alot, but a bit. combat was in an extra screen, like in MoM, you had heroes and spell research, but you couldn't found towns and the whole map was premade. It didn't get anywhere near MoM...

Yeah, MoM was much better. I have always thought of it as sort of a Civ game but in a fantasy setting, w/o need for tile development. :)

MoM was the last Turn Based strategy game I played! The simplicity and incorporation of help made it easy and engaging to play. Though, the AI got old after a while... Its been a while. I wonder if it works on XP.... Maybe I should check out some of the tweaks http://www.classicgaming.com/mom/

Chiefpaco, aren't you playing Civ3? So how can MoM be the last TBS game you played? ;)

What are these tweaks about?

Of course. Before Civ3 I meant. Thanks.

I saw some hacks there by people to try to balance the magics. I haven't tried them yet - just trying to get it up and running on windows XP. Seems to start, but i'm not sure if I can keep it going without freezing...

Hehe, just nitpicking. :) Be sure to tell us if the tweaks work well if you're ever going to try them. One of these days, might just fire up my MoM again. :)
