The problem is that by the time Arabia has fighters, Babylon would already have GDRs. :D

yeah i need to get babylon.. i would never fight against them because i would be busy fighting as them lol

My favorite are the Arabians. I can't say with certainty that they are the best civ though.

what is babylon's actual abilities and unique units/buildings

UA - Get great scientist when you researched writing, gain great scientists at a rate 50% faster

UU - Bowmen

UB - Walls of Babylon

do bowmen replace archers or crossbows? (probably archers because they were an ancient civilization) and do all their bonuses carry on after upgrading them? and lol to glassmage

Archers and by the time X-bows roll around, you already control the continent.

I don't think Babylon is that much better in science.
Pretty good for Great scientists which means you get a lot of free techs.

Well, similar to the philosophy trait from Civ IV, the relative advantages of Babyon's UA are most pronounced during the first half of the game. Of course this is a massive advantage in and of itself, as it lets you get the snowball rolling that much faster, but over the course of an entire game the number of extra scientists received is fairly moderate (~4 iirc). Don't forget that you must prevent other GP types from popping to best leverage the UA, so some flexibility is lost, although that can also be said of many other UAs. This is one reason I prefer Civ IV's trait system, as they lead to a lot of variation in play style without railroading you into an optimal victory condition. Anyways, all tangents aside ;), I still think Babylon is the strongest civ overall, owing to their top tier UA and (as of last patch) very potent UU.

I think the Arabians. I find that the gold bonus actually really does help and the oil is of coarse amazing to use as leverage (just like in real life ;) )
