military service

I was just wondering how military service (on the demographics screen, F11)
is worked out.
im in the final laps of the game, and am pummeling the other continent with ICBM's (yeh ive thrown about 30 at them and it just doesnt seem to lose its appeal hehehe)

i have by FAR the strongest military on the map, and yet, i still am last in military service.
anybody know how its worked out?

P.S while im at it, might as well ask for info on the rest of the demographics screen lol
GNP, mfg Goods, literacy etc etc thanks for any insights anybody should offer

It is kind of a measure for population/military. I tend to be at the back end of that ranking because I have very high population.

I always wonder why the AI has lower pop with the same city size while irrigating like mad instead of mining, and it still has less workers. Where does all the population go?

In particular, here's military service:

Military Service: 10 years * # of military units / # of citizens. Military units are units with an attack and defense value, so workers, scouts and princesses don't count. Kings do. So at the start of a mass regicide game you will have a military service of 70 years because of the 7 military units *10 years divided by just your 1 citizen. 0 years if you have no army or you have just a few units, but thousands of population points.
