It seems I took quite a beating from eyrei in Sunday's chat. I would like to publicly apologize for misinterpreting his instructions. While I did not have knights surrounding Xochicalco(aka the Aztec city), I felt that my instructions allowed for advancement on the Aztec city within 2-3 turns. Check out #2 & #3 in my turnchat instructions. Both lines mention Xochicalco(aka the Aztec city) by name. For eyrei to say that there were no instructions whatsoever regarding Xochicalco(aka the Aztec city) is without merit. Granted, my instructions were not as outlined as they were last time, but I felt it could be reasonably determined that these units were all headed for Xochicalco. Heck, I even apologized to the President for my turnchat instructions at the end of the list.

It seemed to be a busy RL weekend for both of us, and I am willing to mend fences if he is. You can see in previous military threads that I have deferred to his department in other instructions, so my respect for his office should not be in question. Now I must work to get my good name back, so hopefully the following will send me on my way.

XOCHICALCO

PRETURN

Wake fortified knights and attack Xochicalco. This should be enough to hopefully take the city. If not, we can use those units again in Turn 1, along with two more knights, a swordsman and a catapult.

TURN 1(if needed)

1. Bombard the first defender of the city with catapult.
2. Attack with knight that has most hit points.
3. Continue this method until Xochicalco falls.
4. Knight that is 3 tiles north of city should not be needed for this battle. Do not move this unit until Xochicalco falls. In the unlikely event it is needed, send it in. Otherwise, send it toward Padmativa.
5. Send any unused knight SE of city toward Trader's Inn to temporarily defend city until a pikeman can get there.

TURN 2(if needed)

Finish them off with whatever we have.

NARA

NOTE: I didn't make a route map, but if you follow these instructions to letter we should be able to advance on Nara without Russian interference.

PRETURN

1. Between Kyoto and Tokyo, wake fortified pikeman and send toward Tokyo. It will arrive on Turn 1.
2. Wake fortified horseman in Plexenburg and send to Kyoto for upgrade.
3. Wake fortified horseman in Shimonoseki and send west down road to deter Russian advancemant on Yokohama. Use this horse so that Russian sword zig zags his way to Yokohama.
We should have it in a peace dealby the time it arrives.
4. Near Nara, move a fortified knight to tile south of Nara. This will block the Russians from getting next to the city.
5. Wounded knight should head 2 spots east to hold hill for oncoming units. It is worth the risk.

TURN 1

1. Pikeman arrives in Tokyo. Fortify and send knight two spots west to hills.
2. Knight just east of Kyoto should head toward Nara.
3. Newly upgraded knight in Kyoto should head toward Nara.
4. Army and swordsman SE of Nara should move one tile west across river to ready for Turn 2 attack.

TURN 2

1. Elite knight(Apocalpyso?) meets army across river and attacks.
2. Army attacks.
3. Veteran knight crosses river and attacks.
NOTE: Assess the strength of Japan's defense. If you feel the defenseman is weak, proceed. If not, start Turn 3 using all units.
4. Knight on hill attacks heads west and attacks. It will have to fight across river.
5. SW swordsman attacks.
6. 2 knights that are now near Tokyo should end turn on hill.
7. Wounded knight can head toward Kyoto to heal.

TURN 3(if needed)

Use all available units to take Nara. With eyrei's approval, we can now sue for peace. Since Kagoshima should be the new capital, we can hopefully get all 3 northern cities.

OTHER THINGS

1. Why was Bremershaven left undefended? During the preturn, let's wake the pikeman in Tlaxcala if we are looking to defend our new perimeter city. On turn 1, please send Bremershaven's pike back to its city.

2. There are 7 cities with barracks(8 spears total) that can upgrade spearmen to pikemen right away. I will get with the Budget office to see if we can make this happen. That would leave only 10 more spearmen in the field. donsig, we are almost there! ;)

3. We need to assess our future plans for war with America. Once our two objectives are met, we should start sending units to or through Padmativa to get ready. I will begin work on this plan for Sunday's turnchat.

Excellent planning, DZ. I didn't have time to read completely, but the more detailed, the better!

Also, I believe that the defenses of the cities of the South Doughnut Coast are a bit lackluster. Could we find some way to beef up the defenses of the city?

Bavaria is producing a Pikeman every three turns for the purpose of reinforcing our border towns in Great Doughnut Coast and, if necessary, Rhineland (even though it's practically halfway around the world... ;)).

Thank you, Octavian. Actually, part of my plan is to start sending knights thru Padmativa and Leningrado to meet any possible threat before it gets to our cities.

I think your pal Homer said it best after being told to drive defensively on the way to Capital City:

"The best defense is a good offense!"

Don't worry.....I'll try to get you more pikes as well..... ;)

Looks good, DZ. We shouldn't see much opposition from either of these enemy cities.

The reason I was upset was because the war with the Aztecs was started a couple turns too early, because the military department's instructions said to attack their settler. This made an alliance with the Chinese impossible because it damaged our reputation a little, and caused them to charge more. I apologize if I insulted the military department, as I actually believe you are doing a very good job. However, please don't leave instructions to attack anybody we are not at war with unless they clearly say to wait until FA says go. That is how it works most of the time in the real world, and that is how it needs to work here.

This plan looks fine to me...I wish the Aztecs had not had several turns to prepare, but I don't think it will make any difference.

As far as a peace treaty, I really don't see any point in it until they are down to Toyama as their capital and last city. To be honest, I don't see any point in signing a peace treaty until they actually offer something valuable, like Kagoshima. I thought a major reason we built the FP in Kyoto was because we intended to have valuable cities near it. Kagoshima is about the only valuable thing they will have left after Nara, and it should become part of our empire, not some other civ's.

Now you're talkin'. I want Kagoshima too! I didn't think we were going to try to take it, as our military units are getting thinned out and Kagoshima will be a difficult city to take.

I agree we should be doing some upgrading. It's a little expensive, but we don't have the time to build new units if we can afford to pay for them.

So, basically I like the plan too. Especially if it includes Kagoshima.
