I'm thinking about buying mincraft or some similar world building game. Mainly interested in building a unique city/civilization. Anyone out there have minecraft or could you suggest some other game? If minecraft is good then which version is better X-box360 or PC? Thanks.

It really depends on your computer. If you have a good computer with high RAM, Minecraft on PC will be good for what you want to do (not sure how you'd make a civilization but you can build and install plenty of mods that make the game more fun).

You can potentially also look into Terraria.

edit: To clarify my computer comment above, Minecraft is a RAM-heavy game, where most lag you will encounter is because of chunk loading and rendering. With high enough RAM, you can load Minecraft directly into your RAM, which will let chunks load almost instantaneously. Alternately, you can run Minecraft on an SSD which will produce a similar result.

Terraria has been abandoned, there's little incentive in getting it. Minecraft seems to be a better bet.

Don't get me wrong, Terraria is still a great game, but work in Minecraft continues on.

That's true. But the "finished" version of Terraria goes on for quite a while (I have yet to finish it). Over 122 hours and counting.

But yes, it is quite unfortunate the develops abandoned it. They had a really good thing going.

While the X-Box 360 version is apparently a pretty good port, it is limited to a world size of 1024x1024 blocks, isn't quite at the same version as the PC is and will only have a few free updates (which Mojang and 4J had to fight really hard to get). Whereas the PC version has an area that is over 9 MILLION times larger than the EARTH! Also unlimted free updates.

Minecraft's creative mode is a great tool to use to start building cities without having to worry about mining everything and getting it destroyed by monsters, but many people don't find it quite as rewarding as digging out everything by hand. Personally I prefer a mix of the two because I am tired of digging everything out again, but thankfully the server I play on uses the Technic pack of mods so I have a laser tool that blasts out entire caverns (mods are also not available on the console).

Building anything on a large scale in Minecraft, especially by yourself, can take a very long time even in creative mode but it is well worth the effort when you have built something truly marvelous!

As for Terraria, you can't really build that much as it is restricted to 2D.

thanks everyone. found a couple of friends playing minecraft on x-box so i got that. i'm surprised how addictive it is. easy to play hour after hour without realizing it.

Minecraft for the PC is better due to modibility.
