Missionary Immune to Theological Combat (Not a Bug)

I positioned 3 apostles near a choke point to attack any missionaries sent out. When the missionary came, I cornered him I couldn't attack him.

Attached a screen shot of me trying to attack, and the save point. Note: I also have a save point 1 or two turns earlier when his missionary spawns.

If you look at the tooltip for the Missionary, you will see that he has your same religion (Confucianism). Even though he's from a different civilization, you can't attack a religious unit that has your same religion. (It would be pretty exploitive if you could.)

Thanks, for explaining this to me. I didn't see that he was of the same religion.

I assumed he was another Russian Eastern Orthodoxy missionaries.. that they've been sending my way fairly steady.
