Hi there!

I used mobilization in my recent war against the Greeks (it was communism on my side and on the other as well after a while :) )

But I did not see any major advantage (no great disadvantage either) on my side using mobilization.

What was interesting that I noticed that all my cities continued whatever they were doing (even if they were those that cannot be selected in mobilization only when we switching I could not choose sg else...

So how does it work? How can be effectively used? Did anyone do an experiment on it?

Mobilization gives you an extra unit of production (shields) for every squared worked by your city where there is already some production. (only works on military units and structures)

Mobilization rocks, especially if your a Democracy.

When a Democracy and at war, so many people become unhappy that your production can fall pretty quickly. So many entertainers and no one working. Mobilization will allow those that are working to work even harder and offset the fact that some people aren't. It's really handy but you don't want to stay at war forever because while mobilized you can only build military units and improvements. It's worth it, check it out.

Thanks for the ideas :)

Proteus: exactly what restrictions are there? Only that I cannot build everything only mil. units and structures?

Endureth : With mobilization are you able to stay in war forever with democracy? Or the effects of war are getting worse and worse?

You can't stay at war with democracy for two long. After a while your people will revolt and demand a govt change. What I do is make sure I have police stations and try for womans suffrage.

Then I mobilize for war and attack. As soon as you can end the war end it so you can get back to normal production. Democracy can really start to suck if you're at war for too long so make them short so you can get un-mobilized.

What you have to be careful about is if other civs join the side of your opponent. That can make the war drag out and if you can't make peace your country can fall apart. You can't unmobilize while at war so only do it if you're absolutely positive it will either a) be a short war or b) it's about to end. I don't usually mobilize unless my first attacks fail, then I will mobilize and build another army fast so I can take some of his cities to use to end the war. Although you'll want to keep the cities that started the war to yourself (for obvious reasons.

I like Democracy, it can be really powerful when used right.

Mobilisation is also particularly effective when most of your cities are maxed out in terms of improvements as you would just be producing military anyway. I would echo the views of mobilisation being useful in a democracy with a great deal of war weariness.

When I first played the game I was a little cautious about mobilising but it is certainly nothing to be scared of.
