I was editing XML text files to change Civ names and I was wondering if i was doing it properly...

All I did was open the original files and changed the text in them, but I left all the text keys alone...

1) If I use this as a mod will it work?

2) How do I turn it into a mod? All of the files are currently in a Miscellanious files folder...

That's absolutely NOT how you make a mod. Never, ever, EVER edit the original files.

If you want to learn how to do these sorts of things, go over to the References forum. At the top is a stickied topic by Kael that contains the PDF of his Beginner's Modder Guide. (Note that it's a bit out-of-date, since it was written before the VFS change. But it's still a good start.)

Does anyone know how to change the year a game starts and ends, and change the amount of time passed each turn?
i.e. if I wanted to change the start year to 1150AD the end year to 1350AD, and make one year (or six months if possible) per turn.

OK ive figured out how to do this and I successfully changed the Ottomans to the Uyghur Khaganate, but I tried to change Polynesia to Indonesia using the same technique, and it didn't work... It didn't crash but nothing I changed appeared except for the Indonesia name, the leader name, city names, etc. didn't show...

In ModBuddy, go into the mods properties through the project tab on the top bar. Click on 'Actions' in the properties window, and make sure you've got OnModActivated - UpdateDatabase for all XML files
