Mod database?

It's pretty hard to browse the mods here on the forums now that there are hundreds of them. Thread titles are not nearly descriptive enough (well, they really can't be) and old mods fall down on the list. An ideal solution to this would be a mod database.

I envision the database to have at least the following fields:

- Mod name
- Short description
- Long description
- Author
- Mod version
- Civ4 version
- Type of mod (possibly multiple):
-- Total conversion
-- New civ
-- UI enhancement
-- New units
-- New technology
-- Other game aspects (civics, more?)
-- New game modes (length, map size, ...)
- Size of mod (small, medium, large)
- Completeness
- Download link

Does anyone else has such a project already or does it fall into my hands to realize this?

Edit: The database has been published and can be found at http://civ4.tdb.fi/?page=moddb/index

This site my Trait mod is hosted at has a few good mods and showed some potential to be a great repository of mods, sadly it didn't catch on mostly due to lack of advertising and very slow registration/aproval process that most people are too impatient to go through.

Hm, I wonder if that civ4mods site died out due to lack of maintenance or people just not using it...

Anyways, unless anyone else takes this up, I think I'll give it a try after I get the next version of civ4modder out. I have a pretty good framework for creating database websites, so it shouldn't be too much work. Maybe it will catch on better than civ4mods, or maybe not. If you have any ideas (more mod categories, more fields, etc) feel free to tell.

It must not be too dead because my mods I'ved uploaded there have over 500 downloads each and that's a lot more than from this site. I think people are checking there but they don't post to the forum so that's why it appears dead.

I'm making progress with this, and decided to publish a WIP version of it. Take a look at:

Not much mods in it yet and very sparse information available for those few that are, but it's a start. I'll continue adding features tomorrow.

Good start! You might want to separate them by category, just as is done here.

Yup, I already have a database framework for categories, just no interface for it yet.

Category interface added. I was originally thinking about allowing mod files to be uploaded, but if I'm getting even a moderate amount of users, that would be a bad idea... The site is hosted on my 2/1M ADSL line after all. I will add Civ4Modder-compatible downloads manually though.

I guess next up is the search function.

I also need users to add mods to the database. Maybe this could be advertised on the front page in the near future?

There are now seven mods in the database in several different categories. Please go and add your own mods, your favorite mods, your friends' mods, and generally any mods to the database. If you notice your mod having been added by someone else and want to maintain the database entry yourself, drop me a message (and create an account if you don't have one yet).

Ideas for new features are welcome. I'm thinking about adding a possibility to rate and comment mods.

I have registered and will start using your database to host my Mods, I would also like to keep a version of the CCP their. Do you want all the files in a ModSwitcher Diff or will that be an option? Also the "Settings" button isn't currently working (probably know just wanted to make shure).

The goal is to have download links for both "normal" and Civ4Modder versions of the mods. I think I'll implement the file uploading feature and put some kind of bandwidth limitation to my web server so it won't eat all of my bandwidth when users start downloading files. I'll also add a possibility to specify external download links for files hosted elsewhere.

As for the settings link, it indeed is not working yet. Mainly because I have no settings to put there yet. I added a dummy page with this explanation.

Oh, and once you get your mods in the database, be sure to spread the word.
