Hey everyone,

I've been stuck with a problem lately that I don't know how to fix, My mod Dune: Spice War doesn't seem to want to unpack and install. I can build it through mod buddy and play it with no problems but when I subscribe to it only the .civbemod package is downloaded, a directory is created but the package won't extract.

Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?

Solution: Do NOT use : in a mod title or other illegal filename characters as they cause the mod package to not unpack after download. :)

Anyone got any ideas on this? Just doesn't seem right that I can play the mod fine when built in modbuddy, but it won't install when downloaded through Steam.

I can't see what I could have done wrong, except rely on Steam to distribute my product...

How big is the mod? Lots of art? Did you build the mod with ModBuddy (so all the MD5 sigs are correct, and the GUIDs are valid)

The mod uncompressed is 19.6MB, and yes it has a bit of art in there, leader scenes, icons and DOM screens for each faction. Yes the build was done in Modbuddy.

I have a manual download available in the thread for the mod if you wanted to take a look, but I get the impression you have some idea already?

but I get the impression you have some idea already?

Only based on several years of reading similar issues with CivV mods and Steam.

19.6Mb should be OK, there are much bigger CivV mods out there.

Edit: Could be something as silly as the : in the mod name.

You can test without the upload/download from Steam by building the mod, deleting the MODS/Dune Spice Wars (v1) sub-folder and then copying the Dune Spice Wars (v1).CivBEmod file from the ModBuddy packages sub-dir into the MODS sub-folder

whoward689: Once again you are my saviour, I now owe you at least a part of my first born child! I should have realised something as simple as a keyboard character could be the problem, especially a character that is illegal for filenames and file descriptions in most environments. Problem solved!! :D

Your experience is impressive dude, and your skills even more so, I pay you homage! :)

For everyone else:
do NOT use : in your mod title, or other so called illegal characters. They will cause your mod to not unpack and give you a headache. lol :)
