Mod This.

Too much modding can have it's own issues...

Haha, yep. But wait! There's a solution! :mischief:

If you don't like how moddable the game is, you can mod it to be less moddable.

Somehow I doubt you respect the sensibilities of ALL religions. Nobody does. I make fun of Scientology because it's goofy as hell and a huge-ass scam. But it is still recognized as a religion in some places. Hell, I'd love someone to mod it in Civ IV. I want to wage a holy war against those guys. And there's probably 100 more "religions" out there in this great big wide world that are worse than that.

Good guess, but not just religions; when I first heard of Ebonics and Dijonaisse, I fell on the floor laughing and according to the ol’ sufferin’ girlfriend, stank up the place. When I heard the President speak of the “religion of peace”, I felt like doing the same (but in reverse order) but I didn’t - it was too close to 9/11 and it hurt too much.

Firaxis, however, is a publisher (directly or indirectly) to the world and as such may not do what is permitted to an individual in the privacy of his home.

Or..... what?

Seriously. You say they may not do things.. there must be a consequence. Tell me, what is the consequence here? Lawsuit? Protest? Divine intervention?

Sure the modding community might be a small percentage of the entire civIV market but the point is that you're on a forum where the percentage of modders (or those looking for mods) is a very large percentage. So modding is a big deal here. This is the target audience for CivIV's modability feature. It's like saying that New Yorkers aren't a large percentage of the United States' population. But if you're standing in Times Square, chances are you're surrounded by them. Much in the same way, you're posting in a community that is by and large pro-modding or at the very least interested by it. So of course you'll read about what they'd like to mod.

the initial complaint on this thread was amusing to me as well- and i agree - there is alot of that ol "mod it then" mentality. Reading some of the threads on this i suspect many of these modders think they are superior to the casual player-which is laughable. (i have read several instances of this but i do not want to point to any particular thread....) It is also no surprise that many of those complaining about Civ4 things are -modders. Well, i for one am not overly impressed by someone that takes someone elses's tennis shoe and puts glitter on it and then think they are creative or innovative or adding to the game- don't get me wrong- i am glad they have fun-but that is about all. I am part of the 95 percent that just play- and play alot- modding to me is a curiosity not anything to get excited about. I have a bias against modding because i believe no matter what the modder tries to do he/she will invariably mod the game in his or her favor- being human it would unconsciously occur- and before any one starts writing about how it's been tested ect. (by whom- the modder? lol) i do not agree that it can ever be unbiased - unless ur making a leader head or flavor unit or maybe some new kind of terrain (although even here i noticed that the ai does not clear marshes and that was with firaxis making the add on ...)

...the standard answer for everything seems to be:
Don't like the religion...mod it.
Don't like the map size...mod it.
Don't like the leaders, names, graphics, trade engine, animals, colors, number of units, combat system, .... mod it.

Hello all,

somewhere I agree, perhaps not for the same reasons. When Civ 3 was released, the editor which came with was VERY poor. That's very nice to say we will be able to mod whatever we want, but I first want to know what Firawis call WHATEVER. With Civ IV SDK we will be supposed to make anything we want, but, unless someone shows me I'm wrong, I can't stand thinking that this anything will be limited by the imagination of the SDK devlopers !!

(because if I remember correclty, the "grrat" editor released with Civ III wasn't even useful to create maps with units or cities !!)

regards,
