IU was wondering... if i add the files of a mod that doesnt affect the gameplay, just tweak some screens, like the advisors, and graphics, directly to the vanilla Civilization directories (Permanently mod the original civ), would i still be able to play MP games? (including pbem)

have anyone already tried this?

ty... ill look for a few mods that i liked and install them directly now... the original advisors screens are too poor of information..

but what if the others players dont have the same mods as me? will the game crash in some way?

It shouldn't work. Modding the graphics files might be alright, but I doubt changes to the information that the interface gives could be changed - they are controlled by the same python you can use to do all sorts of other things, and so would be hideously exploitable.

Also - don't mod the original files! If you want a mod to always run, put it in your CustomAssets directory.

Possibly, depending on what you do, but I know I've sometimes gotten warning messages while joining a game with slight changes (the Options menu and options menu interface python files to be exact) in the CustomAssets folder. See attached. (Edit: Also, a similar window pops up on the host's screen, but it says "Player 2 has different versions of some game files. Verify that this is a trusted player.")

Note that the *MOD* is not part of the player's name, but I'm assuming a tag that is prepended to the name if that player's files differ from yours.

Also, I think TGA was saying that people shouldn't mod the original files. This means it's fine to mod the Advisor Screen, but be sure to put the modified file in your Custom Assets directory, and not overwrite the files in the "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets" directory.
