I've never modded any aspects of the game but would like to try some new terrain graphics.

Before I wreck my game, which folders do I need to replace/backup before making this switch?

I have Civ III>PtW and Conquests folders in my Civ3 directory and each have their own Art directory which has all the terrain graphics so I'm unsure which one to replace, if say, I'm playing a C3C game.

Edit: Meant to post this in the main forum. :hammer2:

Hm, I'm finding my terrain graphics in the PTW folder, while the Conquests terrain folder only has a couple of additions to that.
You can of course open up these terrain folders to see what's exactly in there. Maybe it's not always the whole terrain folder you want to replace. You might for instance only want to change your 'floodplains'.
What I would do then is rename the file that's in there, like make it 'floodplainsnot'. Then I can still keep it in that same terrain folder, so I won't lose it, and it won't get overwritten by the new 'floodplains' I'm putting in there, because only files that have the same name get overwritten.
To see how something looks like I always use the editor and random generate a map.
I hope that helps.

Dexters, you need to check out the creation and customization board for all of the terrain mods. As for backing up folders, I copy them to a flash drive and have sometimes burned them to a CD to make sure that they are backed up. With the flash drive, I move them to another computer for backup.

...Or, if you have enough space on your hard drive, just copy the Terrain folder (it's in the Conquests\art\ folder) to some other location on your hard drive, then just install the terrain mod pack you want into the C:\whatever\Civilization 3\Conquests\Art\Terrain folder.

Ah that's what I needed to know.

So if I'm playing conquests, I need to replace the terrain folder in the Conquests subdirectory.

Is it any different on Complete? (thinking of getting this for my other computer)

I have Complete and I put the new terrain graphics and all the fun stuff - check out the Civil Disorder; totally wow - I put everything into the *Art* folder that is at the top left of my Complete Folder. it is the Civ III *Art* folder basically I only added Conquest specific stuff to the Conquests art folder.
