I'm trying to add bonuses and leader traits in BTS, but I can't find the correct files. It doesn't look like BTS has files for them at all. I've done this in Vanilla, but I can't find the right spot in BTS. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've also tried to add the warrior monk to my mod, but he comes up all pink. I don't see a skin for him in the file folder, either. Any ideas where to find it?

Thanks for any help,

Freddy

I'm not clear on the process for adding resources or traits. Do you mean that the files from Warlords are copied into BTS, or are they changed in Warlords and it carries over to BTS?

This seems like a pretty basic question, but an hour of browsing the forums and I still can't figure it out.

Changed in Warlords and carried over into BtS.

Basically the game looks in your mod, then the BtS folders, then the Warlords folders, then the Vanilla folders. It stops as soon as it finds what it is looking for. I am not sure if this is true for the movie files.

Thanks for the quick answer! So I go into Warlords, make the changes to the Bonus file. Do the changes carry across to all BTS mods? Or do I create a "mini mod" in Warlords with the same name as the BTS mod?

Hey Firaxis, wouldn't it have been simpler just to leave the files in BTS? I mean, how much space do a couple of pages of XML take?

You can change things in Warlords - or vanilla Civilization IV - provided it doesn't get changed in anything that comes after it. If Civilization IV has an A.xml and B.xml, whereas Warlords has a B.xml and a C.xml, you can change A.xml in Civilization IV, but will need to change B.xml in Warlords. Basically, take the most recent version you can find and use that.

It is not good practice to change the files in vanilla, warlords or BtS. It is better to make a mod, copy the file to that and change files in there. You only need the files you change. This way if you loose and have to reinstall Civ IV you can without loosing your changes, which of course you back up.

I tried that, but the game threw a bunch of error messages (all related to that file) when I tried to load the mod. That's the intuitive answer, really. I'm going to try changing it in Warlords just to see what happens.

You need to copy the file into a folder with the same structure, and sometimes you need to copy the schema file.

As to the unit being pink. The art is probably in a .FPK file. You may need to extract it using PakBuild. i think PakBuild is available on these forums, it is a Firaxis thing.
