Wanted to gather in one place for all to see the current situation regarding science research and offer opportunity for response, if any. Monarcy was not availble :(, so our Illustrious president chose Writing, which was next on the research list. Duke o'York then pointed out we have a wonder being built in RC that will need to be switched from Colussus before it is done. His suggestion, which Civ1 agreed with, was to research Pottery to get Hanging Gardens.

That makes the current research queue as follows:

Writing (diplos/libraries) currently researching
Monarchy
Pottery (Hanging Gardens) (this is a change)
Literacy (Great Library, makes Republic available)
Mysticism
Philosophy

if tech from above is not available, alternatives are:
Currency
Trade
Map Making

The change to add Pottery was not *officially* voted on, so if any object, now is your change to call for a special election to vote on the proposed change to our research queue. Otherwise it stands as is.

Thank you, Leowind, Civ1 and others that have organized us.

My 'vote' is for Hanging Gardens. And it is Trade and Cities that will complete all of these Wonders before the AI. And it is Dips and $50 that will save us from attack. And Roads to deliver the Dip to meet the threat, deliver the Caravans promptly, deliver new troops to our future wars. My .02

Since we're having some "happiness" problems, pottery seems a good choice for after monarchy. After that, go for philosphy. Trade seems a good choice if none of those are available. But, then, we may need some military techs soon. We don't have any, and we can't rely on huts forever.

Because of some math on my side on how fast research goes and how fast RC is building Colossus it might be wise to switch monarchy and pottery: we'll be researching pottery first and then monarchy.
If we don't do that chances are high that we won't be able to research pottery before RC finishes Colossus which would mean we have a SSC without Colossus...:crazyeye:

Does anyone have a little Science Calculator program that peers EXACTLY into the future? That's the kind of help we need.
Hopefully, we can switch next turn from Writing to Pottery, giving us the Hanging Gardens in 16 turns. And then what? We need Monarchy on general principles, but maybe Trade to build a Caravan to help Elysium build the Colossus -- 58 turns is a long time.

We really should build the HG in the SSC. The extra two happy people the city that builds it gets will do a lot for our SSC. Since that is one of the things we do want our SSC to do, is grow very quickly.

We can pull a worker off of a whale in RC, put it on the fish and that will 'slow down' RC's wonder. That will give us time to get monarchy and then pottery for HG in Elysium.

Getting Monarchy will help with the happiness and production issues we are having.

So far, no other Civs have started any wonders. RC building a wonder was a 'safety net' against the AI building colossus.

By changing the workers, it keeps RC as a safety net against losing the wonder and lets us get the very important Monarchy sooner.

If we were at Monarchy right now, RC would only have 2 unhappy instead of 3 and Elysium would have 1 instead of 2. Not to mention that our trade would jump quite a bit because we would get the 'full' benefit of the whale tiles we are using.

I agree with having HG and Colossus in the same city, which will give us quite a few extra trade arrows in that city up to size 6 in monarchy. i.e. if we keep them happy:) My problem with this is usually that the AI builds at least one wonder, Col or HG, before I have time to finish two in my SSC. :( But having them in the same city is of course preferable
