Mods aren't working

So I have gone through all the boards here, and it seems like most of the internet at this point, and I still cannot find why this is not working.

I have the steam version, because I know that matters and is probably why this isn't working. I have Vista 64-bit.

So the mods and scenarios that come with both Warlords and BTS are not working. I start up the game, I can get into a regular, custom game, but when I try to start a mod or scenario it crashes to desktop and does the whole this had a problem, wait for windows to figure out what it is thing.

I have tried moving the folders that contain the mods to basically everywhere that has anything to do with CIV IV and says MODS. I tried in the documents folder, both in the BTS folder and regular CIV IV folder there, and in their respective folders in Steam, none of it works.

Does anyone have any clue on how to fix this or even what it is that is not working?

Thank you,

ok: is your current install of the game in the condition that it was when you installed it? i.e. are you sure the mods are in their install folder?
if not: reinstall the game
if yes: open \my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini and set all items with log in their name from 0 to 1 then try to start a Beyond the Sword mod and after that fails post all items in my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file here.

Well the entire instalation is done by steam and I have reinstalled BTS a couple times already, and teh mods always go to the correct folder, the BTS Mods folder. So here is the logs, hopefully this can see whats wrong.

I put it in RAR format, is that okay?

Thanks,

:hmm: it didn't even load a mod
do you start the game with a shortcut?
if so could you please right click on it, click on properties and then copy the line that says target exactly in a post here?
How are you starting the mod? are you starting it from ingame?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 8800

But I mean it just goes through Steam, and if I click it from here or the client it ends up the same way.

And yeah, I have tried to start it from all the places in game that I can think of. The advanced menu, the BTS content part, and the Play a scenario menu.

Thanks!

:hmm:

try the following - choose any of the mods that come with BtS and note the exact name.
then go to the civilizationIV.ini, open it with any text editor and change the line where it says mod= 0 to mod= modname
e.g.

mod= \Afterworld

does that load the mod when you now start the game?

Yes that does make it work! But does that mean that I have to do that every time I want to start a mod I have to do that? And any idea why I have this problem at all?

Thanks!

Yeah, the shortcut is the first line there.

The installer scripts I've written create shortcuts that launch the mods that use the installer for Steam Users. So it's just a matter of finding the Actual Beyond the Sword extension, and redifining the target. The applaunch 8800 is a registry key telling the Steam.exe what to launch based on what 8800 is defined as in the registry (BtS 3.19), at least I'm pretty sure it is.

Zada in your BtS install directory, probably along the program files path, what's the the path to your BeyondtheSword.exe?
