Mods not working

I have downloaded a couple of mods for Civ IV BtS, and they appear in the menu for 'Load a Mod', but whenever i click it, the game closes and then does nothing for about 2-3 minutes before saying it has met an error and must close. I am running Win 7 32bit and the game runs absolutely perfectly other than this one issue. Does anyone know a fix?

EDIT: The mods that come with Civ4 such as the road to war etc. work fine, also, putting the mod command line in a short-cut doesn't work either.

just the windows message that Civ 4 has stopped working. Another similar window appears asking if i want to send more information about the problem, along with this underneath:

when you are asked whether you want to send information can you click on something saying show report?

what mod are you trying to load?
where is it installed to?

Rise of Mankind installed in the Beyond the Sword directory (C:\blah blah blah\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods and then the Rise of Mankind folder with all the files in it). I have also tried CivGold which installs itself to that directory, but also doesn't work. And a MaxRiga mod.

My first guess is that your BtS hasn't been patched to v3.19. Rise of Mankind won't work in any previous BtS versions. Since the in-game patcher doesn't patch the game to this version, you'll need to get it manually from here.

So I installed patch 3.19, and ran the game. I told it to load Rise of Mankind, and it attempted to restart. After about 2-3 minutes my colour scheme changed back to normal (it changes to basic whenever i run programmes in XP compatability) indicating the game had closed. Another 2-3 minutes later and apparently i was wrong, Rise of Mankind started up (awesome job by the way, although it crashed when i clicked on Robert the Bruce, the Scottish leader.)

so the mod itself started, but crashed when you tried to start a game?
just checking: since RoM is a rather huge mod - did you try this with a different mod as well?

I tried MaxRiga mod and that doesn't seem to work, when i choose it to load the game closes and doesn't restart, either that or it just takes really long.

Robert you say... that sounds like you're trying to use Rise of Mankind mega version (2.8). I'm guessing here again but I think your computer might not be powerful enough to run the mega version. I'd suggest you try out the normal version (2.91 was just released) without those extra civs that come with mega version. You should also check out Rise of Mankind feedback -thread on RoM forum and we can continue this discussion there.
